GATE Institute at The Data Spaces Symposium 2024
Data Spaces Symposium in Darmstadtium is the world's leading event on data spaces and one of the most inspiring events in the 2024 calendar. Designed as a platform to showcase the latest market-ready use cases, and advanced technology solutions for existing and emerging data spaces, this symposium presents a great opportunity to share ideas with our fellow researchers from around the world.
The symposium kicked off with a focus on unity among organizations, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in building data spaces.
Among the sessions on the first day was the Data Monetization session, co-organized by UPCAST, enRichMyData , and Graph-Massivizer Project . The speakers focused on practical data monetization strategies to extract maximum value from data assets. Discussions revolved around utilizing advanced analytics and information processing techniques to unlock insights, alongside technologies for maintaining data quality.
The second day, highlighted as the "Visionary Day” included high-level keynotes, inspirational panel presentations, and sessions with major global players demonstrating how they unite to build data spaces, innovate the economy, and adopt data space solutions.
On the final day of the symposium - "European Data Spaces Day", the focus was on practical applications, use cases, and educational activities. Discussions about the future of data spaces have been initiated, aligning with the European Strategy for Data.
We had the opportunity to meet with our partners from "DSSC" - a project contributing to establishing shared data spaces that are data sovereign, interoperable, and trustworthy, enabling data reuse within and across sectors.

Furthermore, we met up with significant experts in the data spaces industry like Lars Nagel , Natalie Bertels , Garcia Robles, Christoph Mertens , Alberto Berreteaga Barbero , and Markus Spiekermann .
Not only did GATE representatives have the chance to collaborate with many experts, but Prof. Sylvia Ilieva was also appointed an IDSA Ambassador by the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) head office. This recognition further acknowledges Prof. Ilieva's contributions to the data spaces community, highlighting her expertise and dedication to advancing the field.
Our team values the diverse perspectives and all insightful discussions on the substantial potential of Data Spaces shared by all attendees. These conversations contribute significantly to shaping the trajectory of innovation and advancement in our field. Once again we want to extend our sincere gratitude to the organizers from the Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC), BDVA - Big Data Value Association the Data Spaces Business Alliance (DSBA).
