Gastech 2023 will look ahead to the future amidst an industry-wide transformation to drive progress towards net zero.

Taking place at Singapore EXPO from 5-8 September, Gastech Exhibition & Conference will convene policy makers, industry and corporate leaders, global climate specialists and academics to deliver real progress towards a cleaner, more secure, and more affordable energy future.

Christopher Hudson , President of dmg events, spoke with Inside Oil & Gas about what attendees can expect from the show, including new features such as the Climatetech Zone, access to insights from over 600 strategic speakers, and a unique opportunity to shape the global decarbonisation agenda. ?

What does Gastech bring to the industry?

Gastech is the world’s largest conference for natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, low-carbon solutions and climate technology. It is the platform with the power to deliver real progress as we connect, collaborate and accelerate the future of energy. Natural gas, LNG and hydrogen stand out as key enablers and accelerators of the energy transition. Gastech 2023 will reinforce this consensus among global energy leaders and help the industry unlock the opportunities that it presents.

Crucially, Gastech 2023 will be the largest energy event of its kind taking place in Asia this year – setting the agenda for decarbonisation in the region for decades to come.

The region is home to half the world’s population, where energy demand is expected to triple by 2040, therefore Asia has a critical role to play in the global energy transition. It is a global hub for natural gas and offers a compelling blueprint of how to utilise bridging fuels to support the long-term shift to renewables.

The region’s largest economies, Japan and China, are already the most significant global importers of natural gas and LNG. Meanwhile others, such as Indonesia and Vietnam, are rapidly expanding their natural gas and LNG capacity to improve energy independence and security. Asia’s commitment to these bridging fuels has become a point of unity and collaboration, reflected most recently by Japan’s multilateral proposal to create a stockpile for natural gas to help avoid future shortages and stabilise prices.

As countries work towards ambitious net zero and decarbonisation goals, Asia is also experiencing a boom in hydrogen production. Today, China is the largest hydrogen producer in the world. In 2021, the nation produced about 33 million tonnes of hydrogen and by 2050 it is expected that about 70% of China’s hydrogen will be made from renewable energy. Low-carbon hydrogen has also been identified as a key component of Singapore’s future power mix. Through the ‘National Hydrogen Strategy’ it is hoped that green hydrogen could supply up to half of Singapore’s power needs by 2050.

Gastech will gather industry leaders and experts from across the region, and internationally, to project Asia’s voice on natural gas, LNG and hydrogen to the world. ?

More than 600 strategic speakers – from policymakers to innovators and c-suite executives - will share valuable insights into the energy industry and its trajectory. These will include Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of 贝克休斯 , Wu Junli, Chairman of PetroChina International (Singapore) , Yukio Kani, Chairman of the Board and Global CEO of JERA Co., Inc. , Meg O’Neill, CEO and Managing Director of Woodside Energy , Peter Clarke, Senior Vice President - Global LNG of 埃克森美孚 International Limited, Joseph McMonigle, Secretary General of the IEF - International Energy Forum , and Alan Heng, Group CEO of Pavilion Energy .

Across the exhibition floor, the Climatetech, Shipping and Marine, and Hydrogen zones, as well as 16 international country pavilions, will allow attendees to discover new products, solutions and technologies at the cutting-edge of the natural gas, LNG, climate tech and hydrogen industries.

With 750 exhibitors and 40,000+ energy professionals, attendees will have an unparalleled opportunity to network with those seeking conversations, collaborations and connections to address the challenges and opportunities created by the energy transformation. Offering buyers and sellers the perfect environment to do business, strengthen existing partnerships and explore new avenues of cooperation.

How has Gastech grown?

I am delighted to announce that there will be several exciting new features for 2023, including the Climatetech zone, placing the growing role of technology and innovation in the energy transition at the heart the show. The dedicated Climatetech zone will allow participants to explore the industry’s latest innovations, from carbon capture to artificial intelligence, that will play a central role in decarbonising the value chain.

There are also a number of successful features from previous editions of Gastech that have been enhanced for Gastech 2023. These include the dedicated Start-up Zone, which will help foster the creation of new corporate entrepreneurial partnerships that are vital to addressing the challenges of today’s energy system, and the Hosted Buyer Programme, which will seamlessly connect buyers with relevant Gastech exhibitors.

As demand soars globally, we have also expanded the focus on hydrogen at Gastech 2023. The dedicated Hydrogen zone and theatre will champion hydrogen as a low-carbon solution within the global energy system. Industry innovators and disruptors will demonstrate hydrogen’s role in reducing emissions to meet climate commitments, displaying the groundbreaking technologies and advancements that make hydrogen a desired low-carbon solution.

It is so exciting to see how Gastech grows and evolves every year. We are constantly responding to new industry trends, challenges and opportunities, and I am confident that the show we have developed for 2023 will deliver real progress towards a cleaner, more affordable and more secure energy future.
