Gas vs Electric Equipment

Gas vs Electric Equipment

If you’re like most people, you have a gas-powered lawn mower. But it’s not the only option. Electric lawn mowers are becoming more popular, and for good reason. You might already have an electric-powered weed wacker. In this article, we’re going to discuss gas vs electric equipment for your lawn. We’ll talk about:

  • Benefits
  • Prices
  • Safety

The Benefits of Gas and Electric Equipment

We believe electric lawn equipment is superior to gas-powered lawn equipment. That being said, one benefit of a gas-powered lawn mower is familiarity. Since they’re more widespread, your neighbor might be able to recommend a “good” gas-powered lawn mower they’ve used for years. If the gas-powered lawn mower ever breaks down, there are plenty of repair shops for these types of lawn mowers.

Electric lawn mowers, on the other hand, are better for the environment. We’ll talk more about this in the safety section.

Another benefit of electric lawn mowers is that they’re quiet. Do you have a baby or small children? Do your neighbors? If so, an electric lawn mower won’t wake them up if you cut the grass early in the morning.

Let’s jump back to gas-powered lawn mowers. One benefit to using them is that they can run longer on a full tank of gas. Depending on the lawn mower, the electric one might run out of power faster than the gas-powered lawn mower.

Comparing the Prices

How much do lawn mowers cost? Gas-powered lawn mowers cost from one hundred to thousands of dollars, depending on width of cut, manufacturer, and quality. Electric-powered lawn mowers tend to cost anywhere from 50% to 100% more; however, the added amount is negated in the cost of fuel and reduction in general maintenance and repair costs.

Gas-powered lawn mowers are known to cost less; however, as electric lawn mowers become more popular, that’s changing. Electric-powered lawn mowers are becoming more affordable.

There are a few things that need to be considered when comparing the prices, however. These are parts, fuel, and maintenance.

How much does it cost to service a gas-powered lawn mower? It may cost anywhere between $50-$150, generally, and more for more serious issues.

Gas prices are the lowest they’ve been in years. But they won’t always be this low. When gas prices rise again, there will be a greater push to buy electric equipment.

Which is Safer?

We mentioned before that electric-powered lawn mowers are better for the environment. According to the EPA, “gas mowers represent 5% of U.S. air pollution”. Decreasing the use of gas mowers will lower the amount of U.S. air pollution. The emissions of 1 small gas mower is equal to that of 13 cars! Think about around homes and businesses. Electric-powered lawn mowers are better for your lawn and your family.

Electric lawn mowers don’t emit harmful gases that gas-powered lawn mowers do. These gases find their way into the lawn, in the bushes, in the garden, and into the lungs of kids and family animals. Get healthy and choose electric lawn equipment!

Gasoline and oil present a safety issue if mishandled. Spills happen and they aren’t good for your lawn! As a matter of fact, as you probably know, gasoline is toxic to your lawn and garden. It’s also a pain to store it. With electric equipment, you never have to worry about storing gas or the hazards that come with it.
