How your body responds to STRESS is a continuous check to understand how stressful are . Similarly one needs to figure out how your stress is treating you , Are you into positive or a negative state of stress? Many of the traits at times , are not visible to ourselves only and the time we realize its late . There are generally three stages of response which we divide as :
First Stage is called ALARM STAGE : This stage is the first to experience and the foremost trigger towards experiencing Stress .In this state the mind experiences distress which is the negative form . Generally stress is of two types - Eustress & Distress, while Eustress is the positive form and distress the opposite . The alarm state is when stress is experienced and body sends a signal to brain stating the same and brain sends back a signal to the body releasing hormones called glucocorticoids and adrenaline; which are commonly known as "fight or flight" responses .
Second Stage is called RESISTANCE STAGE : It occurs after the reaction stage . It persists if the stressor still exists. In the resistance stage, your body begins to lower your blood pressure and heart rate. It also reduces the amount of adrenaline and cortisol being produced.
Third Stage is called EXHAUSTION STAGE : You experience this stage after your body has gone through an extended period of stress. Here, even if the stressor persists, your body is too depleted to continue to combat it.?This is the riskiest stage of general adaptation syndrome, as you are most prone to developing health conditions here.
Hans Selye, a researcher, and scientist came up with the concept of general adaptation syndrome. He used the term to define the physical changes the body goes through when it's stressed. He discovered this while experimenting on lab rats. Rats went through physical and psychological due to extreme conditions they were put in ,but apart from these, stress do get triggered when we lose our loved ones, work place bullying, over expectation , accidents , break ups etc etc.
