Gas for Climate. The optimal role for gas in a net-zero emissions energy system
April weather during the weekend and no desire to go out?
Suggestion: Have a cup of tea and browse through the latest study of the "Gas for Climate" initiative which was published this week.
Gas for Climate, that is 7 leading European gas TSOs, 2 biogas associations and the consultancy Navigant who have jointly put quite some efforts over the past months into exploring the potential of gas infrastructure, renewable gas and decarbonized gas in a future European energy system (find out more about Gas for Climate here).
As acting chairman of Gas for Climate I would like to share our latest 2019 study "The optimal role for gas in a net-zero emission energy system" with you. I am confident that our work is providing valuable input to the ongoing discussion on how we can shape a future energy system that will enable us to achieve our ambitious emission reduction targets in a technically feasible way, competitively and with broad public acceptance.
Interesting stuff and an outlook for an exciting future ahead of us!
But let's not get carried away. The proof of the pudding is in the eating and the challenge of achieving our ambitious GHG emission reductions is enormous - yet achievable! We have already started with projects and initiatives moving beyond the "study phase" into the "proof of concept phase". With the help of policy makers, industry, customers and cooperation along the value chain we can create the right framework and move things even further entering a real "transformation phase".
Let's get moving. We don't have much time to waste!
