Gary Lisbon - Photos of 685 courses in 26 countries and counting....

In the last 12 months, I have been approached by different organisations keen for me to present about my photography travels around the world and showcase some of my favourite images.

Here are a few ideas on how I could work with you in a speaking capacity to add some excitement to your function:

  • your company golf day as a form of post golf entertainment
  • at a company conference or meeting to provide a different kind of visually exciting presentation
  • at your golf club or members club with club members who are interested in the diversity of golf around the world (and places they can go to play)
  • visiting Australia (and in particular Melbourne) with a group of your golfing buddies? I can come and speak one night and tailor the presentation to include your preferred courses

A common question people have asked me – “is it only of interest for the golf lover?” and judging by some of the audience members in previous talks, I would say most definitely not.

The nature of my presentation is very visual and I have deliberately chosen images which appeal to both golfers and non golfers.?

Background to my photography journey

My journey in the world of Golf Course photography has been extremely satisfying.

Over the last 20 years, I have been blessed to have travelled around the world capturing images of many of the world's best golf courses.

This has seen me visit and photograph more than 685 courses in 26 countries. In the coming months I will also add to the list with planned client trips to Argentina, Brazil and Malaysia.

It is hard to imagine when I first started capturing photos with a very basic digital camera (yep one of the first Kodak digitals with a "huge" 1 Mb file size) that I would be able to travel the world and be approached by golf clubs wanting me to capture images of their course.

Along the way, there have been some great successes and some challenges (weather, equipment failure, drone crashes, VISA nuances) but I wouldn't have it any other way. When you face challenges, it makes the end result even more satisfying.

In the time before drones - about to fly above Cape Kidnappers

and one of the images of Cape Kidnappers I captured...

I have taken images on the ground, in a helicopter, with a drone, standing on the back of a motorised cart, on top of a wobbly ladder - even from the only cherry picker in Fiji—on one shoot. In short, it has been an exhilarating ride that shows no sign of stopping!

How many photos have I taken? That is an interesting question - I would have to venture that we are heading towards 500,000...

The breathtaking beauty of Lofoten Links in Norway

This is something I have loved doing, and with the visual nature of golf, I am able to showcase a range of my images on the big screen with unique and engaging stories about each course.

What would I talk about?

Each presentation could be tailored to your specific requirements and might include:

  • how I captured the shots and what goes into doing so,
  • the challenges (eg. careful not to be eaten by a leopard at Leopard Creek in South Africa)
  • the successes when there seemed to be no chance of a positive outcome (cloudy skies and rain with 20 seconds of sunshine at the right time),
  • the unlikely opportunities (blessings) I have been presented with (at Barnbougle prior to the drone era and a helicopter was flying overhead. I signalled to it and it actually landed, picked me up, and I got the most amazing aerial shots - one of which won "Photograph of the Year".

and even more.

"Great Golf Courses of the World"

My most recent project, "Great Golf Courses of the World", is a culmination of 15 years work, and to be honest, it is something I am very proud of.

For a long time, I had a vision to produce a high quality coffee table book showcasing some of my favourite images and courses from around the world.

The end result is 288 pages of spectacular photos, insightful essays, all contained within a unique (first of its kind) panoramic format coffee table book.

You can purchase now for immediate delivery, and I guarantee you will love it.

"Recently, Gary was invited to talk at one of our club’s golf lunches . It was an excellent presentation taking our assembled members and guests along Gary’s journey which culminated in his wonderful book, ‘Great Golf Courses of the World’. The many photos that Gary shared were quite extraordinary and with the stories and engaging questions and answers, the lunch was one of our best for the year!

It was not only a visual ‘tour de force’ for the golfing enthusiast, but it was also an education about golf hole design. Above all, Gary’s presentation was very entertaining and we would be delighted and privileged, to have him back again at some stage in the future.”

"The Golf Society was fortunate to have Gary speak at one of our dinners. Our members and guests were instantly engaged as Gary opened his talk with a stunning image of a course and asked where it was ...no one from our much-travelled golf audience recognised the spectacular course ‘Lofoten Links’ of Norway.

In his presentation, Gary spoke of his lifelong passion for golf course photography and generously shared with us how he captures courses in the best way he can.

His incredible knowledge and entertaining style were complemented by a collection of beautiful golf course images, many of which were used in his most recent book Great Golf Courses of the World ...definitely one for the book collection. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening".
