It's interesting how different the social dynamics are from one day to the next at this conference. Here's my theory:
On Days 1 and 2 we're busy getting to know people, soaking up new information, and thinking about the glorious future. By Day 3, we're all starting to get behind on email and think about the work piling up back in the office. But we've had a little time to digest the insights from sessions and the pitches from vendors. And that's when we really start making connections and getting excited about what we need to do next.
So many of my hallway conversations yesterday were much more specific - along the lines of scheduling follow up meetings and framing pilot projects. The conversations with vendors were more direct - asking hard questions about exactly what made their stuff special, and how well it really works. In short, I saw a lot of real business getting done yesterday.
A few folks have commented on the fact that Gartner isn't talking about bimodal innovation this year - an idea that has its roots in Clayton Christensen's book The Innovator's Dilemma. The concept is still relevant, and it's a good way to explain why companies need to develop a strategy around emerging technologies like #Blockchain and #AI.
My new video on Omni-channel Fulfillment just came out, and I think it can be really useful to explain to non-supply chain folks (in less than 5 minutes!) why eCommerce is such a big challenge.
H/T to the IBM Watson Supply Chain team for experimenting with an online group chat in LinkedIn. You can read the Q&A discussion with me and Dan Sanker from CaseStack in the new LinkedIn Group - IBM Watson Supply Chain Network.
And, of course, last night was the big unveiling of the Supply Chain Top 25. Congratulations to the companies, and their supply chain leaders, for demonstrating the value that supply chain can deliver!
