Garden Art

Being blessed with fantastic sea views from the home and in the year my Mother Winnie passed on gave birth to developing a contemplative garden. I decided to immerse myself in this happy distraction in 2007, a year filled with emotion and inspired by my childhood memory of love for Flipper, a TV series based on the same name. So the garden has become my adult playpen.

It seemed appropriate to have a heart-shaped cascade pond adorn this grass-shaped dolphin that would occupy my attention in the coming years.

The Genesis and love of this go back to my growing up in Ballymun Villa, which was out on the outskirts of Dublin then, with a brook flowing alongside the garden. Santry Demesne was also on the doorstep where nature was abundant, helping me gain considerable knowledge and a love of birds. Much of that stream now runs underground, although it feeds the beautiful lake at Santry, where ducks and swans can be seen happy in their environment. A Huckleberry Finn type, one might say, with a fertile imagination which included, to this day, a close imaginary friend who watches over me as I play.

The contemplative garden, as I call it, is like an art in action where I constantly play with new ideas to keep myself stimulated physically and mentally. It is visible on Google Earth, which wasn’t my original vision. It brought pride and joy to me as I shared it with lonely passer-byes I invited in to view when the big dark cloud of recent times was above us.
