In the era where Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concept is being adopted by most organizations that pursue for excellence, a significant gap remains between the top Management and other ESG practitioners within the Organizations and the on-the-ground realities experienced by frontline workers. This paper dissects the perspective of those at the forefront of operational execution, highlighting the challenges in actualizing ESG principles. By focusing on the dynamics between policy formulation and implementation, this paper unpacks common reasons why ESG initiatives have yet to manifest their full potential in frontliners.

The integration of ESG requirements into corporate strategy is a transformational approach to ensure sustainable business operations. However, despite the embrace of ESG at corporate level evidence does not ideally translate into tangible benefits for frontline workers. Building ESG as mindset is the same as building culture, it should be bottom-up. It is time for the ideals of ESG to be matched with an unwavering commitment to their comprehensive and conscientious application at all levels of an organization to avoid it becoming a greenwashing practice.
