Gaming Trends Of 2022

2021 was a pivotal year in the gaming industry. Last year, the gaming industry generated $81 billion from mobile gaming applications and $50 billion from console gaming. It is estimated that these figures will reach $200 billion in the next 5 years. The past made us look at games through different lenses and the future looks quite promising for an alternate gaming economy. With the advent of the new technologies that provide immersive gaming experience, metaverse, blockchain gaming and play to earn models, It is easy for gamers to leverage their skills and create a full time career in the gaming industry.

This year will add more gamers to the gaming community and it is assumed that till 2024, half of the planet’s population would have at least one game on their smartphone.

With that said, I personally feel these three gaming trends will occupy most of the gaming models.

1. Play to earn

Making money from games is an old school principle. However, It lacked the protocols to manage and monetize the platforms that itself became the hurdle for the gamers and the gaming company. The arrival of NFTs have brought a paradigm shift in the play to earn model where the NFTs can be exchanged for cryptocurrencies. Games like Axie Infinity are leading this segment and so forth have helped thousands of gamers to earn their bread and butter through their gaming platform.

?2. Metaverse - The beginning of a whole new gaming era.

Since facebook rebranded their company as meta. They sowed a seed of the upcoming metaverse that will astonish us with its limitless potential of the virtual world. Their VR sales are skyrocketing hinting us that people will spend more of their time in the virtual world. Since they are the first movers in the web3 space, there is a chance that they will dominate it too. Currently sandbox, roblox are the games that take us on a tour to the metaverse. More and more metaverse based games will be created to provide an immersive gaming experience that we can’t refuse.

3. The war of consoles

If 2021 was the era of gaming, 2022 will be for the gaming consoles. Looking at the exponential rise in the gaming population, new players will enter the market with their innovative machines and existing one’s will upgrade their systems to compete in the market. The console leaders like sony playstation, xbox and nintendo need to be cut above the rest as companies like microsoft, apple and tencent are steaming their levels. Gamers will enjoy this tug of war as they will always be on the side to choose quality gaming consoles at best prices to improve their gaming experience.?

Is this the best we can ask from the gaming industry?

Ofcourse not, The future is unpredictable and the gaming universe is traversing through lightning speed. New games are replacing the old in a blink and we can’t help but flow with the trend.
