The Gaming Business is flourishing

Many still believe gaming is for kids, for fun they say. They are correct, actually partly correct. Partly because gaming is for teenagers and adults too. Because gaming is for profession and for business too.
Gaming is much more than people playing on their idle time. Gamer is now a profession, a paid profession as any other profession. And there is nothing wrong with that because to be a good gamer one needs to work hard, in fact a gamer has to play for as many hours as any other professional does. And the better the player, the higher the income. While some gamers earn a couple thousand US dollars per month, some others earn ten times as much if the numbers we read here and there are correct.
As in any other sport, gamers are now being hired by global companies to promote brands and products. And again as in any sports business, gamers that better promote a brand or product get to earn more - a lot more.
Statistics about the gaming audience and industry vary considerably and as such are not reliable, but are impressive anyway. For instance, there are more than 100 million people playing the League of Legend (LoL) worldwide today. In the final of a game like LoL, tens of millions of expectators watch it over the Internet and TV - that's more than the audience of NBA finals. That's right, the finals of some games are now being broadcasted over the TV too.
Wonder how TV (and youtube) channels and game producers make money? Game producers make money, for instance, selling customizations, weapons, etc. TV channels (and game producers too) make money, for instance, by selling advertising spaces and slots.
The question I have is: is the gaming business going to become a sports business as any other or is this just the tip of the iceberg?
