Gaming America: The Week on Wednesday

Here is what happened in the gaming industry across the Americas in the past week:

New York March figures; GGR falls 6.8%, handle at $1.85bn

The New York State Gaming Commission has announced its mobile sports wagering figures for March 2024. In total, handle came to $1.85bn, with mobile sports wagering gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $151.7m. Compared to this time last year, handle has grown 3.4% from the $1.79bn in March 2023, while GGR has declined 6.8% from last year's $162.8m. Net revenue to education has also declined year-on-year, down 8.1% from $83m to $76.3m. Read the full article here.

Atlantic City casino licensees report 4.1% decline in full-year profit for 2023

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has announced figures for casino licensees in Atlantic City for the fourth quarter and full year of 2023. During the fourth quarter of 2023, Atlantic City casino licensees reported a 3.6% decline in their gross operating profit to $148.5m, though when only looking at casino hotel licensees, total gross operating profit grew by 2.6% to $142.1m.?Read the full article here.

South Carolina vs. Iowa women’s basketball faceoff yields record number of bets

Interest in women’s college basketball from fans and bettors continues to rise, according to a recent ESPN report. The network reported that the recent South Carolina vs. Iowa game brought in the largest number of bets. Several sportsbooks reported a boost in activity during the game, including ESPN Bet, Caesars, BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel. Three of these operators, BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel, said the South Carolina and Iowa women’s game was their “most-bet women's sporting event of all time.” Read the full article here.
