Welcome back to?Gaming America’s newsletter in which we give you the top gaming industry stories from the Americas.

There is much to read in this edition of The Week on Wednesday. As the industry prepares for what will likely be the most profitable football season for operators ever, the American Gaming Association put out its predictions on the coming year. In related news, Virginia reported monumental year-over-on-year growth. Finally, the diversification of the industry continued apace after a Maryland sports betting commission required that guidelines addressing these issues be added to licensing applications.

Record number of US adults ready to bet on upcoming NFL season

A new record has been set with 46.6 million US adults (18% of the total population) saying that they are planning to bet on the upcoming #NFL season. This is a 3% increase year-on-year, according to the American Gaming Association (AGA). The NFL kick-off coincides with Responsible Gaming Education Month, which seems to spread its message: 92% of US bettors reported awareness of responsible gaming tools. Nine in ten of past-year bettors have said they find it ‘somewhat or very’ important they use a legal, regulated sportsbook. Read the full article here.?

July sports wagering handle in Virginia increased 64% year-over-year

The Virginia Lottery has released its numbers for the month ending on July 31, 2022. Through the month of July, bettors in #Virginia wagered over $266m through fourteen licensed operators. These numbers reflect a 64% year-over-year increase from the same month in 2021 when there were only seven operators in the state. Read the full article here.

Maryland sports betting commission adds diversity requirement to applications

The #Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission unanimously approved a policy amendment, requiring?companies awarded a mobile betting license in Maryland to submit a diversity plan. The plan is known as SWARC and will need to be submitted to the sports betting commission by the operator within 30 days after licensing.?Read the full article here.
