Here is what happened in the gaming industry across the Americas in the past week:
Nevada reports April revenue of $1.16bn
Nevada’s gaming revenue has not only returned to, but surpassed, its pre-pandemic numbers. For April, the state reported $1.16bn, which is also up from $1.13bn in April the previous year. Clark County led the way, generating nearly $995m of the state’s total gaming win. For the year, the state’s gaming revenue has risen 6.6%. While Nevada as a whole continues its billion-dollar streak; however, Clark County has just missed the mark after 11 months of generating at least $1bn on its own. Read the full article here.
Churchill Downs suspends racing activity
Churchill Downs Incorporated has announced it will suspend all racing operations at Churchill Downs Racetrack. This suspension will begin on June 7 and continue throughout the remainder of the Spring Meet, which is scheduled to run to July 3. The remainder of the race meeting will be relocated to Ellis Park Racing & Gaming in Henderson, Kentucky. This will begin on June 10. The suspension of operations comes after an unusually high number of injuries over the previous month. The injuries have resulted in 12 equine fatalities. Read the full article here.

FanDuel, DraftKings & bet365 lead Ohio April sports betting market
Ohio’s sports betting revenue reached $63.7m in the month of April as Buckeye fans bet a total of $520.6m in handle, across retail sportsbooks and online platforms. Separately, the state’s four casinos brought in total gaming revenue of $86.4m. Casino gaming began in Ohio in 2012 and the state is now set to possibly see its most profitable year of land-based gaming.
