North Carolina bill to legalize online sports betting set to be filed soon
A new bill that would allow the introduction of online sports betting is set to be tabled in North Carolina’s General Assembly. Both the Democrat Governor Roy Cooper and a lead Republican lawmaker are strong proponents of the bill, believing it will pass. Cooper commented: “You know, I think it’s going to pass, from what I hear,” when speaking to local North Carolina reporters, just ahead of an NHL Carolina Hurricanes game. The Old North State boasts a number of popular teams who would probably attract sports fans to wager if the bill were to be made into law. Read the full article here.
US sports betting and iGaming revenues reach record highs in 2022
US commercial gaming broke an annual record in 2022, hitting $60.4bn in gross gaming revenue (GGR), according to a report by the American Gaming Association (AGA). In an address to the industry, the AGA delved further into the breakdown of revenue. This figure only accounts for commercial operators; when combined with Tribal revenue, the AGA believes the grand total will most likely exceed $100bn. Read the full article here.
Penn Entertainment completes purchase of Barstool Sports for $388m
PENN Entertainment, Inc, Inc has closed a deal regarding a previously announced plan to acquire Barstool Sports . The transaction began in February 2020 when Penn purchased a 36% stake in the company. At the completion of the sale, Penn purchased the remaining interest in the company for nearly $388m.
