I wrote about the Serious Business Game (SBG) training solution in my email communications to GOARISC & Oversight 's potential clients. In the emails, my intention was to inform, describe, convince, and tell you stories that could spur their interest in this innovative learning platform.
So, I decided to take one SBG course each day because I joined the Summer Training Camp that started in July 2022. At my first login, I was fascinated by the 27 courses in my catalogue. The courses are soft skills required to perform as a professional internal auditor. Every professional needs these soft skills regardless of current proficiency levels.
Courses on agile philosophy, effective feedback, decision-making, interpersonal communication, teamwork, creative problem solving, negotiation and deal closing, collaboration, leadership, task delegation, etc., are fundamental to helping our technical skills as professionals.?
Many professionals have the majority of these soft skills on their résumé. That includes me! However, many of us might still need to unlearn, learn, and relearn these skills using storytelling, simulation, competitions, applicable and practical scenarios, intuitive and flexible mediums, and high-quality content to reinforce our proficiencies.
I have 27 courses, so where do I start? Agile! That's because we use agile auditing methodology in internal audit engagements with high uncertainty,?high speed of change, or requirements for problem-solving is high.
During the over one hour of training, I played a game to learn about agile philosophy. I discovered the values and principles of the agile approach and; the advantages of the agile mindset required to focus on my team's interactions, motivations, cohesion, and stakeholder needs while collaborating with my audit clients on an ongoing basis.?
I can now identify when an agile approach to managing a project or an engagement is appropriate. I didn't spend 1 hour 25 minutes on the training! It was more than that. During the training, I attended to my to-dos. I left the platform to prepare breakfast. I joined my nursing wife to care for our one-month-old baby. At the end of the training, I ranked second with 1360 points.
