Hello, Devs!

Spring is in full swing, and so are the exciting developments within our indie game community. This month's newsletter is packed with updates from game incubators, insightful industry talks, and valuable training sessions that are helping shape the future of our teams.

The new teams of iGi#4

iGi – the Indie Game Incubator in Japan has launched its fourth edition. Six amazing games have been selected to benefit from the support and mentorship offered by industry professionals. Here are three of them:

CHRONICLE

A Real-time Strategy game which you will engage in strategic boss battles, manipulate elements like terrain and weather, and dive into a botanical steampunk world that narrates itself, all while assembling a deck of over 200 significant personalities to define your play style.

INDOMITABLE BLADE

Lead the remnants of the royal knights in intense strategy RPG battles in a gripping tale of resilience and strategic warfare set in the war-torn kingdom of Vestholt, where magic's fall has left the land vulnerable. Leverage character-specific abilities and strategic prowess and reclaim your homeland!

MOTION REC

Navigate stages by recording, replaying, and even reverse-playing your character's movements in this innovative action game. Master the art of precise motion control to overcome obstacles and complete levels swiftly.

GameGi#2 closing party

GameGi 2 officially came to an end with the DemoDay on April 11th, where the three teams presented their games in front of video games students and industry professionals.

Afterwards, we all enjoyed an insightful talk about tips to run an indie studio by Aleix Risco, Lead Game Designer and co-founder of Evil Zeppelin.

The evening concluded with a networking session where all attendees were able to play GameGi 2 games and meet their developers.


GameBCN talk! with Anchor Point Studios

In our latest monthly gathering, GameBCN hosted an enlightening talk with Anchor Point Studios and Jeremy Patenaude, focusing on the art of storytelling in video games. The event, packed to the brim, featured Jeremy's expert insights on building immersive narrative worlds and enriching them with compelling stories.

What have GameBCN#9 teams been working on?

Half Sunk Games?has been working on a visual major transformation, embracing a generally dreamlike theme featuring impossible scenarios and characters.Drawing inspiration from astrological tools, they've crafted a distinctive visual style.

Dust Games has been optimizing colors and art, reworking the UI, and implementing metrics for upcoming events. They also have worked on the final roadmap of the project.

Juegos Asados has begun to design and prototype an "Inscryption" style minigame, in which you will bet on the upgrades achieved during the runs. In addition, they have improved the game's AI, weapon system and gameplay music.

F2P monetization-oriented design

Victor Ortiz, an expert in game economy design and monetization, shared his wealth of knowledge and experience with the teams on the fundamentals, tips, and tools needed to create a successful F2P game.

Marketing Basics (Mobile)

Arnaud Bénéfice, a savvy marketer from Gameloft, dished out tips for whipping up effective mobile marketing campaigns on a shoestring budget. Teams got down to drafting practical plans tailored for mobile platforms.

Marketing Basics (PC/Console)?

Lionel Zajdweber spilled the beans on crafting killer marketing campaigns for PC and console games, even on a tight budget. Teams crafted practical plans tailored for the PC/console gaming scene.

Communication plan

Mónica Lorenzo gave teams the lowdown on social media platforms and how to use them effectively. Participants got hands-on, creating and managing pro-level social media profiles.

KPIs design and analysis

Miquel Gil unpacked the mysteries of game monetization metrics, giving teams the scoop on key performance indicators (KPIs) for boosting revenue. Hands-on exercises helped teams grasp the essentials for success.
