I was about to write in reflection on the past three months thinking since it’s October 1st, I am heading into the 4th quarter. But I am not. I am heading into the 1st quarter in a new game. The last three months were brutal training camp for an undrafted free agent. I basically lost all the scrimmages and often was the last choses when they picked teams. Asking as I ice down, “Is this game for me?”
Back to the weight room, prospecting, posting, calling— still silence. “You must be doing it wrong.” In the film room—more reading and learning from the successful people that came before me. The voices continue, sometimes in real life, “You’re weak, get tougher.” I’m sweating… “Is it even possible to be successful undrafted?” “Maybe I should just get a job.”
Phone rings, again, again and again… “Ma’am when are you going to pay?”
The headaches start.
Who can I blame? No one. I am the master of my universe. Kinda lonely out here, though. Hello God. Is this thing on? Alexa! Somebody!
FFFF OOOOO CCCC UUUUU SSSSS “FOCUS DAMMIT”
Back to the weight room—getting stronger.
Back to the film room—getting wiser.
Memorizing the play book—I know I can
Developing successful habits. Setting goals. Not letting others or my past failures dictate my future.
It’s Game Time.
The brain doesn’t know the difference between being nervous or excited.
I am excited, because I know when I play, I win.
