The Game Talk Show Recap - With Non-Fungible Arcade - 17/11/22
The time has arrived to turn the spotlight onto one of our very own hosts. With a track record of bringing on countless pioneers building in the blockchain gaming space, it would be an injustice to Web3 itself if we did not feature one of our very own hosts of the show, Dr. JPEG, and shed a bright light on what he and his team are building behind closed doors. With a rebellious community at its disposal, NFA has been on a streak of pinning down multiple partnerships with a vision to bring back a multi-community arcade experience into the Web3 industry.
After busting a few dad jokes at the beginning, a quick introduction about Non-Fungible Arcade kickstarted the show. “NFA is a gaming platform that pays gamers and developers based on performance," said Dr. JPEG. Breaking that down to be easily digestible, NFA is a blockchain gaming platform that brings retro arcade-styled games back into popularity through a unique incentive structure that empowers gamers and developers. With interoperability in mind, it also brings together the participation of multiple Web3 communities onto the platform, allowing playable characters from other Web3 projects to be integrated into their arcade games.
With an objective to get the overall platform up and running in the next 90 days, Dr. Jpeg wanted viewers to understand that while NFA is building its own games, it is also providing a platform and marketplace for gamers and developers.
The guest, wanting to give a teaser in the first quarter of the show itself, mentioned that the first game developed internally by NFA based on their lore will be available for the public to immerse themselves in within the next 10 days. Surprised by the very short time span for the release, Jorge expressed his increasing urge to play the game and moved on to ask the guest a question related to a tweet he put out recently.
To backtrack, in a recent tweet, Dr. Jpeg mentioned that NFA had cracked the code to be “anti-axie”. Answering the question asked by Jorge, which was related to this tweet, he told the viewers that the economic model that revolved around Axie Infinity was unsustainable. The mechanics rewarded the early adopters by utilizing the latecomers as prey and employed highly inflationary tokenomics that decreased the value of their in-game token as more and more players extracted money from the ecosystem. Leaving this unhealthy system behind, the guest mentioned that at NFA, as more players immerse themselves in the platform, more rewards will be paid out, but remember, it's all based on performance and skill.
Going back to the start, new users of the platform will be able to partake in the OG arcade experience, where they are sucked into an actual arcade and will be able to go from arcade machine to arcade machine, choosing games they love and adore and immersing themselves in them. While users are required to purchase in-game tokens to participate in the games, just like in traditional arcades, players would receive tickets as rewards that would have two utilities. One is the ability to redeem them for USDC, and the other is the ability to gain limited digital collectibles that offer in-game utility. NFA currently has more than 17 partnerships in the works with various Web3 communities, including Shrapnel, Collider Craftworks, NeoTokyo, My Pet Hooligan, etc., and that number continues to go vertical with the amazing work done by the team in charge of partnerships at NFA. Being big believers in interoperability, the games inside NFA will include playable digital characters from all partnership communities, where players will get the opportunity to represent their favorite communities utilizing these digital characters and engage in the platform. While season 1 of the platform (six weeks) will have an overall USDC prize pool worth $500k (yes, you heard that right! It's $500,000) players will be rewarded daily, based on skill as they rank up in the leaderboard which would also reset on a daily basis. Therefore, while you have the opportunity to fairly participate in the competitive games inside the platform, those who join the platform in the middle of the season would also have a chance at the pie, as the rewards that are paid out increase if there is an increase in the player count. Note that rewards are not paid out using an in-game token but in USDC itself.?
Shifting the conversation into what actually building NFA boils down to for Dr. Jpeg, he mentioned that, as their ethos clearly states, it is all about empowering the two most important actors in gaming, the gamers and the game developers, who for countless years have been suffering at the hands of these traditional gaming giants who just care about the bottom line. Providing gamers who actually got skill, the ability to earn while playing something they love, and inviting their friends and family to engage in the same actions as the overall system is structured to payout more as the number of players increases, is what giving power back to the players is all about. NFA's game developer program, which helps indie game developers integrate their creations into the platform and get rewarded through a pay-per-play method that revolves around the ability to earn more as their respective game is played by an increasing number of users, allows a true empowerment of developer creativity and freedom.??
Having a locked discord that focuses on real organic growth and engagement of the community, if you wish to get access to one of GameFi’s most active discords, Dr. Jpeg suggested that you keep an eagle eye on all social media platforms where NFA has a presence and engage in the upcoming riddle-type marketing to gain early access to the upcoming game and NFA’s discord.
Moving on to the final minutes of the show, Dr. Jpeg went on to drop some more alpha, and here is what he exactly said before closing off…
We are building, you know, gamer profiles; we are building a proprietary marketplace; we are building game developer profiles where we are hosting their games on this platform; and we have an arcade environment that would have multiple games that we are internally building.”
