The Game Hasn't Started, But Someone Just Won the Super Bowl

It's only 10:54am on Super Bowl Sunday on the east coast as I am writing this, but someone just hoisted the Lombardi Trophy. No, it's not Peyton Manning and the Broncos. It's not even 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton and the Panthers.

It's Gatorade.

As a marketer, unless you have been living under a rock for the past 5-7 years, the phrase "content is king" should be quite familiar to you. A brand's biggest challenge is having to reach both it's loyal customers and a broader user base amidst a great deal of distraction.

In comes the Gatorade shower, the most iconic ritual in sports thanks to Harry Carson, coupled with Snapchat, today's most highly engaged social platform (don't fact-check me on that- just ask any 18-24 year old what social network they use the most).

Users can scroll through Snapchat's filters feature to show themselves getting an orange (hint at those Vegas prop bets?) Gatorade bath, complete with crowd noise and eye black.

Would it surprise me if the impact of this filter stretches as high as a 30-second, $5 million spot mid-game? No, not in the least bit. The Internet is already going crazy over this.

Bravo, Gatorade.
