Game Development for product advertising.
boring commercial! how about a game?
In the world of commercial advertising weather it is a new clothes shop, hospital or even recruitment for governments and terrorist organizations - ISIS - the use of cool and innovative commercials is the blood vein of the entire process.
we see that clearly everyday going to work with all these commercials online and on bill boards and also many hits by that notification sound - bling - that your noisy, interrupting phone does. the tools for this commercial invasion are so many and versatile what i want to talk about here is my own experience and view on the use of games as an advertising tool.
working for about a year now in an advertising agency one thing i see all the time is "innovative ideas". someone comes with an idea -no matter how crazy - but really cool so we discuss and go on with it. the one thing i noticed is that the agencies usually -specially in the Arab world- feel the need to cut the development time dramatically by using a game template and modifying it just a little to get the job done.
personally i understand that but i do not necessarily respect it. working in a creative business means you should -must- be creative. doing that is dramatically affecting both your creative team and the company in the long run. people will stop thinking and the enthusiasm for work will slowly die and you will end up with zombies working for the pay day only.
i think that games can be used even on a larger scale and have greater results than any media in the market. no need for statistics i am supporting my claim by just saying 2 words "happy farm".
the web platform - as a software development platform - is by far the greatest and most important development platform existing today.depending on that we can really affect the market by using long term and generic web based "browser based" games to promote different product and services. the game will be a tool to promote a product rather than just being a game. multi-media advertising means in it's core " the use of more than on media to deliver a message" so
#let's change the game.
