The Gambler Line

Decided that I’ll start scaling back these messages to every other day over the next couple of weeks as I start to get my head around closing everything down at DPM.
Part of me will miss sitting down and writing these each day, but I know it’s time.
I was driving into the early morning group yesterday and something about the old Kenny Rodgers song that came on got me thinking it was the right move to step away from things at DPM.
You know the line in The Gambler that goes “you gotta know when to hold em, you gotta know when to fold em. Know when to walk away, know when to run”.
Well the knowing when to fold em bit rang true.
Same with knowing when to walk away.
Now’s the right time.
What’s ahead doesn’t make me nervous, so it makes me think it’s the right decision.
When the reasons to stay aren’t as much as the reasons to fold em, that’s when it’s time.
You might find the same in your life if something is no longer working the best for you like it was.
Sure, there’s going to be a few things that I’ll miss.
But the things I won’t miss at the moment are outweighing the others.
I just know it’s time – as hard as change can be.
And as sad as it can be too.
There’s plenty of DPMers who I’ll miss seeing each week that’s for sure.
But we had a good run.
And as someone said to me in a comment when I first announced it “don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened”.
So that’s a pretty good way to sum things up.
Cheers,
Daniel
