Galveston is Open: Supporting Local Business Leads to a Strong Recovery
Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce
Promoting and advocating for business and community development since 1845
Gina Spagnola, President and CEO of Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce
The spirit of "Texans supporting Texans" echoed through our recent Good Morning Galveston meeting. It is important to recognize that when businesses in our community do not thrive, the entire community suffers. Thriving businesses generate income for local governments through taxes and other revenues, which fund essential public services, which include safety and infrastructure improvements. Conversely, when businesses falter, it can lead to higher unemployment, affect our schools, decrease community investments, and diminish economic and social well-being. We understand that this journey is not easy, but together, we can ensure our region's strong and vibrant recovery.?
The road to recovery from Hurricane Beryl is challenging, and the Chamber is committed to supporting our community every step of the way. We're working closely with partners like the City of Galveston, the Port of Galveston, the Park Board, Visit Galveston, the GEDP, Vision Galveston, Bolivar Tourism Center, our legislators, our local businesses, non-profit organizations, residents, and the tourism sector to implement a multi-pronged approach.
Here are some things you can do to help:
Learning from past events is crucial. Misinformation during disasters, like the Colorado fires, where the entire state was mistakenly perceived as engulfed, can have long-lasting negative effects on jobs and the economy. Clear and accurate communication is critical in our recovery efforts.
Chamber Priorities:
By promoting local shopping and visitation, supporting residents, and encouraging local spending, we can ensure a robust recovery for our region.
Together, our region will emerge stronger than ever. Thank you for your continued resilience and support. Let's work towards a brighter tomorrow.
