Gallery Talk: Who Builds Your Architecture?
Karen L. Nelson
Dean, School of Architecture at The Boston Architectural College
The BAC has been recognized with distinction for its leadership role in educating an extraordinarily diverse student body to help bring about social equity through design. We continue to be at the forefront of learning from practice and academic study with guidance from our brilliant practitioners and faculty members.
On Friday, October 4th at 6 pm, the BAC will host a gallery talk by two core members of the group Who Builds Your Architecture?: Professor Kadambari Baxi and Jordan H. Carver. They examine, make visible, and critique the relations between the design and construction of architecture.
Our Newbury Street Gallery presently holds an original exhibit, Who Builds Your Architecture? that features a complex social, technical, and geo-political network that makes visible how buildings are constructed globally.
As we educate our students to practice design globally, it is crucial for each of us to consider actively our contribution and our ethical responsibility in this social web. This exhibit advocates for fair labor practices at all construction sites. I think that this exhibit is particularly important in this time of renewed focus on active citizenship at the BAC and beyond.
This exhibit and associated programming are generously funded by AnnBehaArchitects, Arrowstreet, The Johnny Miller Champ Foundation, the Joan Shafran and Rob Haimes Foundation, and the Boston Architectural College.
