Gallery space, private dealer, virtual gallery?
Valerie Anne Giscard d'Estaing
Owner at Galerie XII - Paris / Los Angeles
For several years, the multiplication of Fairs and the advent of the Internet have changed the behavior of collectors whose visits to galleries are rarer. This is why a number of gallery owners have opted for the ?in-room gallery?, that is to say simply no gallery space but personal appointments in their apartment. Many publications have echoed this trend, extolling the more contemporary side of this approach at a time when telework and coworking spaces are multiplying.
I remain faithful to the gallery on the street, both as a place and as a concept. Open to well-defined schedules, it gives great freedom to the visitor who can pass there at his whim, make a quick tour or settle there for a longer conversation. Of course, Fairs are essential meeting places and we participate in several every year. But I think it’s also important to be able to organize personal exhibitions for the artists we represent. On a Salon, we will hang some works, often from different series. An exhibition shows a coherent body of work, visible over a period of several weeks. A gallery is also a team at the service of artists. A place where they come to show their projects, share their anxieties, discuss techniques, frameworks, etc.

But in the current context, the gallery is closed and we have therefore invested in the use of the internet in all its forms. Nothing replaces direct contact with the work and we hope to be able to receive visitors soon. In the meantime, we have assembled a virtual 3D exhibition that we invite you to discover. As in a ?real? place, you can stay as much as you want in front of each work, approach and enter the image, or take a step back, go out and come back, follow a guided tour or circulate according to your pleasure. We won’t be here to talk with you, but feel free to send us your comments. Have a good visit!
