Galactic Merger Of Arp 220 Captured By NASA’s James Webb

The galactic merger of Arp 220, has recently been featured in a stunning image taken by NASA’s forthcoming?James Webb Space Telescope. Arp 220 is an ultra-luminous infrared galaxy that emits a luminosity of over a trillion suns, and it is a remarkable example of a galaxy undergoing intense star formation. This phenomenon was triggered by the collision of the two spiral galaxies, which began approximately 700 million years ago and led to the creation of around 200 massive star clusters. The newly released image from the Webb telescope provides a closer look at Arp 220 and reveals faint tidal tails, organic material in streams and filaments, and evidence of the galactic dance that is currently taking place.
