Gaining Perspective
David Zinger
Extending Invitations to Experience and Engage with Who and What Matters to You
Close up or long shot? Sometimes we just need to space out!
To gain perspective it helps to take a close view of distant things and a distant view of close things.
I bet you are not disturbed by the 560km storm on Jupiter or the Great Red Spot about 9,800 miles across - big enough to swallow Earth (A close view of distant things).
Now try imaging looking at earth from Jupiter and recognize how incredibly small all the storms and red spots in your life actually are (A distant view of close things).
Sometimes we need to take a good look at things. Did you notice the moon of Europa on the left side of Jupiter in the Hubble photo? (What are you failing to see in your own life?)
In conclusion, my favorite quotation from the psychologically-minded Charlie Chaplin: "Life is a tragedy in close up and a comedy in long shot."
