Gain settings for Ableton Live Templates:

Just a quick point/ reminder (or introduction perhaps) to something, which though very rudimentary, has served me well from when first employed. This simple task has been a Standard (pun intended) of every template I have created since.

Nowadays we work with so my sources of audio- with a wide differential pertaining to gain structure - that we owe it to ourselves to optimize our templates accordingly when bringing them into our sessions. For every template I have created over these last many moons, my AUDIO TRACK inputs are set to near (+/-) -19 dB and my MONITOR settings for blank MIDI tracks to "Off". Why is that?

For me this works to optimize my levels and keep them under control. Hardware synths are easier to deal with but VST default gain settings can be ruthless to your ears. I track at the most, -12db before mix-down anyway. Additionally, this ensures I don't stun myself, or my monitoring systems with any sonic discomfort when I dive right into a new project. It gives me a moment to set my gains accordingly before I start playing away into the sunset.

Just wanted to share what I believe serves as a very valuable consideration and /or reminder. Again, this works for me and has promoted a better workflow, which I like to keep under control at all times.
