Last week I ran a poll on LinkedIn where I asked how people felt about presenting. Here’s the results:
Likely the results aren’t that surprising to you, they certainly weren’t to me! And that’s because many people fear it more than they fear death…but not as much as spiders!
Yet it’s the ultimate catalyst for career success.
There’s no better way to build credibility, visibility, or to communicate your brand than presenting. So why do we avoid it so much?
Now obviously these days I’m out there doing everything from stand up to TedX Talks…but there was a time the idea of public speaking had me quaking in my shoes.
But I knew overcoming this fear would have the power to transform my career, and I was right!
In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s changed my life…as I’m more confident, have more presence and impact in everything I do.
It's why I love coaching women on this skill so much! I’ve had clients go from hiding to key note speaking in front of a thousand people within a short space of time.
How do you feel about it? How are you using presenting to propel your career forward?
Or if you’re hiding…what might it do for you to get over the fear?
Breaking Barriers with Tamasin Fraser
Tamasin has broken through many barriers to make it in the male dominated energy sector. One of the most exciting bits of her story is how she's raised her visibility through presenting.
This has resulted in multiple opportunities, and helped her be seen as the industry leader she is. She stepped up to National Director, is now chairing the national industry body, and has recently made the exciting step of setting up her own business.
Definitely one to watch!

??Tip of the week??
Of course when you talk about communication and presenting, then the topic of nerves tends to come up. So this week's tip is to help you with your nerves!
The best thing (as a reformed very nervous speaker) is the reframe. We tend to think of nerves as something terrible, but actually they show you care.
I'd rather listen to someone that cares about the topic that someone who doesn't, any day of the week!
Another reframe we can do with nerves is to remind ourself that the feeling is the same as excitement. So reframing it as I'm excited to share my experience/ knowledge on the subject is really helpful.
What's your favourite tip for nerves?

Suffering with Menopause?
One of the triggers for hot flushes (or raging fires) is stress. It's no wonder if you feel stressy about presenting that you can easily end up drowned in sweat. So what can you do to help yourself...Some pre-emptive action you can take is:
1. Get there early and see how you can ventilate the room
2. Do some breath work and get yourself into a calm headspace ahead of time.
3. Keep a check on your self talk, reframe the opportunity, remind yourself that you speak every day and you're perfectly capable.
4. Have a plan for forgetting a key word - you can even turn it into a game (and to learn more about that...sign up for my FREE workshop below)!
As I mentioned, I am running a fantastic FREE webinar to help you shift from fearful to fierce in your communication!
I'll be sharing the greatest tips and strategies I've learned over a 20+ year career in mastering speaking and presenting. I cannot wait to give you tips that you won't hear anywhere else, because they've come from experience!
