The launch of TV-D1 is the first step towards the Gaganyaan Mission, under which the Indian Government aims to construct a 'Bharatiya Antariksha Station’ (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and land the first Indian astronaut on the Moon by 2040.?The Indian government has planned a three-day mission to send astronauts into low-Earth orbit at a height of 400 kilometers by 2025. The purpose of this launch was explained by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman S. Somanath, who, while announcing the goal of the Gaganyaan First Flight Mission, said, " I am very happy to announce the successful accomplishment of the TV-D1 mission. The purpose of this mission was to demonstrate the crew escape system for the Gaganyaan program through a test vehicle demonstration in which the vehicle went up to a Mach number, which is slightly above the speed of sound, and initiated an abort condition for the crew escape system to function." - The Economic Times - Gaganyaan TV-D1 mission successful: ISRO Chief S Somanath - October 21, 2023. The main objective of the TV-D1 launch was to analyze and reckon the test vehicle subsystems, flight demonstrations, and evaluations of the crew escape system with respect to the functioning of the parachutes along with the separation of the sub-systems.
