The much ado done on the topic of sustainable development with doing exactly what we've been doing for ages has been a stark observation of mine.
I've attended 2 G20's in Mumbai, May'23 and lately in Haridwar, June'23. The observations of Mumbai were posted in May'23 and here I am compelled to repeat.
Ideally G20, stands to promote sustainable development with more focus on climate change for what the world is watching now. So what would be the souvenirs?
1) The one received was a plastic bottle unbreakable by Cello. :D
2) This is an observation for most of the conferences being held -?ID cards :)
Yes it is an unbreakable plastic card and also a badge of aluminium and plastic printed G20.

3) As a guest enters water is a basic essential - water again in small plastic bottles leading to more than 1000+ bottles used in a day by 100+ attendees, is a food for thought. (Carbon footprints keep printing here)
4) Scope for future roadmaps only to be dictated by the old but rarely do we see young leaders sharing the perspective of changes we need to see and social innovations they work upon.
5) Governance and Ethics - no comments.
I understand that we make mistakes to learn but not consistently make the same mistakes and unlearn soo fast and make them again as a crime never intended.
Hope in the upcoming cities these basic essentials are taken care of, if my country doesn't then the one who takes up G20 in future adheres to this.
A basic standard or benchmark needs to be created to organise conferences to build up the G20 brand too. Just talk and no walk diminishes the sheer significance of the subject.
Writing this with a hope it catches the right eyes who could lead the change...
well written and brought the facts to light

1 年Very well pointed out ! There is no end to Conferences and Meetings but the ground reality is proof that proper solutions are not being implemented.

1 年When will organizers learn to first make the event as Green as possible. I had commented even in Cii Green Co events, where the 5 star hotels were serving us water in plastic bottles. It's only last few years 5 star hotels have stopped this. Henceforth every event ahldnAlso have a seperate listing of the Green initiatives taken for them for the event to have reduced carbon footprint. Else public shld ban then. It shld be like some Star rating for every event in the country.
