G20 Brazil 2024- G20 South Africa 2025

We are pleased to share an update on the recent collaboration between Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in anticipation of the upcoming G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19. In a productive phone conversation, President Lula emphasized his interest in holding a bilateral meeting with President Ramaphosa during the summit to strengthen their cooperation on key global issues.

As South Africa prepares to assume the G20 presidency, President Ramaphosa will play a pivotal role in shaping the forum’s agenda and guiding discussions on pressing global economic and geopolitical challenges. President Lula expressed regret for missing an opportunity to meet with President Ramaphosa at the recent BRICS meeting in Kazan, Russia, and reiterated his invitation to the IBSA group breakfast—a gathering of leaders from South Africa, Brazil, and India—scheduled for November 19 in Rio.

President Lula also extended his gratitude to South Africa for its support of the joint "Common Understandings between China and Brazil on a Political Solution to the Crisis in Ukraine," presented during the 79th UN General Assembly in September. This collaborative stance underscores the shared vision between Brazil and South Africa in addressing international challenges through diplomacy and partnership.

As we approach the G20 Summit in Rio, we are encouraged by these discussions, which reinforce a united approach to addressing global challenges through multilateral cooperation.
