Managers Mention

This section includes professional insights?from our Sales Managers/ Managing Consultants, offering their perspectives on what is influencing recruitment demand in their sector.

It's nothing new to say Industry 4.0 is revolutionising the demand for job markets, however this obvious point isn't one that software developers should let pass them by.?

?Whilst certain software languages were in high demand throughout the 2010s, demand for these skills – especially in the contract market after the IR35 reforms – has meant engineers have had to adapt. Being a true polyglot developer who can apply sound computer science and design pattern principles in any environment is a good starting point for this, as is upskilling on cloud technologies, however getting exposure to lower-level software is a trick I often feel several people are missing.?

?A lot of client's demand in engineering stem from the endless possibilities they now have as a result of cloud technologies. No longer are they restricted to the capabilities of what their embedded systems could do. However, whilst software engineers are focusing on developing their cloud abilities, hiring managers from what can often be very traditional engineering firms are frequently looking for skills in embedded software engineering and will often choose someone with some form of electronics background and hardware-oriented software development experience, over someone who is purely application and cloud focused.?

?My tip for software developers struggling in this market: focus on your fundamental software engineering skills; learn about electronics; adapt; and be prepared for the differences the engineering world can bring versus SaaS businesses.?

Market Disruptors

This section offers insight from our Business Development team about market disruptors?that are shaking up the world of Recruitment.

In today's rapidly evolving energy landscape, sustainability and renewable energy have been at the forefront of a lot of discussions, including ours!

With new technologies and processes emerging, the need for deep, long-term expertise has emerged. Our clients recognise that to stay competitive and lead in this space; they must invest in talent who can grow with the company and drive innovation.

g2 Recruitment, much like our market, has reacted to these changes and invested our time and resources into building permanent recruitment teams to help our clients grow their internal workforce.?

Having said this, hiring the right internal talent takes time. Good candidates are often unavailable and have lengthy notice periods, meaning companies within the space prioritising quick and effective project delivery need to consider alternatives.?

While hiring on a permanent basis will often be a preference, it is important to consider the unique value that freelancers bring to the table.

We recently worked with a client who, after initially seeking only permanent hires, decided to explore freelance options. This decision allowed them to quickly bring in a seasoned expert.

Their diverse experience and fresh perspectives not only helped the company address immediate challenges but also brought new approaches to their ongoing projects.

At g2 Recruitment, we're here to support you in finding the right balance. Whether you're looking to build a permanent team that will grow with your company or tap into the varied knowledge and availability of freelancers.

Our Business Development team prides itself on its ability to consult with clients on their unique needs, providing invaluable support to help their companies grow. If you’re uncertain about the best solution to your staffing needs, reaching out to us could provide the clarity and direction you need.

Great insight, I am not from a software development background, but this article sheds light on a crucial trend: versatility is essential. While cloud technologies are transforming job markets, traditional firms still value embedded software and hardware experience. Adapting by honing core engineering skills and embracing new technologies can make a significant difference in today’s evolving industry.
