FYI - Fuel Your Insights

Bhaskar Natarajan, PCC

Insight is a psychological term that attempts to describe the process in problem-solving when a previously (seemingly) unsolvable puzzle becomes suddenly clear and obvious.

When you search the meaning of 'Insight' - you could get the following: noun: the capacity to gain an accurate and deep understanding of someone or something.

Insights?could

  • be as a result of introspection
  • be individual, contextualized discoveries, or accumulated understanding built over a period of time or multiple instances
  • relate to the process of collating evidence and findings from multiple sources, reflecting on the connections, and investigating the contradictions
  • be an understanding of cause and effect based on the identification of relationships and behaviors within a model, context, or scenario

The purpose of an 'Insight' is?to connect head, gut, and heart —information (Facts & observations) plus inspiration (idea, new perspective, reframing) and/or a feeling of excitement (positive emotion!).

Archimedes of Syracuse was a Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and inventor (c.?287 – c.?212 BC)

Archimedes of Syracuse was a Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and inventor (c. 287 – c. 212 BC)

In the story, Archimedes was asked (c. 250 BC) by the local king to determine whether a crown was pure gold. During a subsequent trip to a public bath, Archimedes noted that water was displaced when his body sank into the bath, and particularly that the volume of water displaced equaled the volume of his body immersed in the water. Having discovered how to measure the volume of an irregular object, and conceiving of a method to solve the king's problem, Archimedes allegedly leaped out and ran home naked, shouting ε?ρηκα (eureka, "I have found it!").

The eureka effect (also known as the Aha! moment or eureka moment) refers to the common human experience of suddenly understanding a previously incomprehensible problem or concept.

Four defining attributes of an Insight (Aha! moment)

  1. Appears suddenly
  2. The solution to a problem can be processed smoothly, or fluently
  3. Elicits positive emotion (affect)
  4. The person experiencing the Insight is convinced that a solution is true

Insight can be conceptualized as a two-phase process:

  1. The problem solver come upon an impasse, where they become stuck and even though they may seemingly have explored all the possibilities, are still unable to retrieve or generate a solution.
  2. The second phase occurs suddenly and unexpectedly

So, What's Next?!

Once one gains 'Insight' into something, the logical next steps would include, setting a Goal, prioritizing actions, and starting their journey by executing these steps one at a time!

It is NOT ENOUGH to have an 'Aha! Moment' - let's convert them into 'Actions' and unleash the hidden potential!!

Living life by design requires a mindful focus on 1) #Health, 2) #Work, 3) #Play, and 4) #Love. Our lives go haywire mostly because there is no Balance in these 4 Boxes. Wonderful post Bhaskar Natarajan, PCC
