FWB Park Brown Appointments

It has been a busy time for FWB Park Brown at home and abroad and we are pleased to have advised on the following appointments:



Sir Mark Jones will take over as Chair of National Trust for Scotland when the current Chair, Sir Moir Lockhead, steps down in August after a successful 4 years. He was the Director of the National Museums of Scotland from 1992 to 2001, where he oversaw the project to create and open the ‘Museum of Scotland’. He then became the Director of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London where, during his tenure, there was a ten-year, £120 million programme of renewal of the museum which saw visitor numbers triple.



Financial services trade body Scottish Financial Enterprise (SFE) has announced the appointment of Philip Grant, of Lloyds Banking Group, as its new Chair. Philip takes over from Jim Pettigrew, Chair of CYBG, who has stepped down after completing his three year term. Philip is currently Chair of Lloyds Banking Group’s Scottish Executive Committee and Managing Director of Customer and Business Risk within its Insurance and Wealth division.



Former leader of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland and current Shetland MSP, Tavish Scott, is set to join Scottish Rugby as Head of External Affairs. The newly created role will oversee Scottish Rugby’s corporate affairs and media operations and will proactively develop its relationships with government, national stakeholders and the member clubs of the Union. As the business continues to grow and develop on a global stage, Shona Bell, formerly of Barrie Knitwear, also joins as HRD as does Barry Shields as Senior Finance Manager.



In a series of other HR appointments, Alison Gowan joins CYBG plc, owner of Virgin Money, as Senior HR Business Partner. She was formerly with C&C plc. Jackie Old joins international engineering group Howden as Head of Organisation Effectiveness and Programme Management, having previously been Head of Culture and Change at Hewlett Packard in San Francisco. Liz Cole has been appointed HR Business Partner for fund manager Martin Currie, having previously been with RBS and Tracey MacLennan joins the international learning and development business Insights as Head of Organisational Effectiveness. Ian Sloan becomes Head of HR for KCA Deutag in Oman, joining from Siemens.



Burak Ozsoylu has also joined Howden Group as Marketing Director. Originally from Turkey, Burak has relocated from Austria and his most recent role with Innio Power (GE Power’s distributed power franchise divested business) to take on this role in Glasgow.



Stewart Milne Group, one of the UK’s largest independent housebuilders, has appointed Alistair Gronbach as Group Marketing Director. He joins from Rangers Football Club where he held the position of Director of Communications and Marketing.



The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has appointed Jan Cutting as Director of Marketing and Communications. She joins from Robert Gordon University where she held a similar position.



Gloucester based Specialist Aviation Services provides high quality outsourced air support services internationally. The business owns and operates a first class fleet as well as providing MRO and training services. Luke Farajallah, former COO of FlyBe and CEO of Bond Helicopters, joins as CEO.



Scottish Futures Trust is an infrastructure centre of expertise owned by the Scottish Government and which works with numerous public and private sector partners across high-profile programmes. Caroline Whyteside has been appointed Corporate Services Director and joins from Edinburgh International Festival, where she was COO.



William Grant & Sons, owners of, amongst others, Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Hendricks, Grants, Sailor Jerry, Tullamore Dew and Monkey Shoulder has appointed Sara Bishop, formerly of Distell, as Group Financial Controller.



Allrig, owned by Clyde Blowers Capital, is a leading global oil & gas services company providing offshore drilling contractors with a global one stop shop. Alan MacLeod, formerly of Maritime Developments, has been appointed as CFO.



Edwin James Group, backed by Aliter Capital, is a market-leading facilities engineering business, working across the UK to deliver excellence in technical and process services to some of the world's best-known brands. Mark Orpin joins as Group Commercial Director having previously been the Operations Director for the projects business at Mitie Group plc.



Spartans Community Football Academy is a very influential and successful social enterprise within the North Edinburgh community. It has had a very positive impact on social targets such as health improvement, employment and crime reduction as well as providing learning and development opportunities and recreational activities. James Hair, Head of Special Projects for Weir Group plc (and a former Spartans player) has been appointed to its Board as a Non-Executive Director.



Peacock Salt is the largest importer of salt into the UK. It is also a 5th generation family business with great heritage and history. Tom Greenshields has been appointed to its Board as Sales and Marketing Director, and joins following a successful career within Greenshields JCB.



The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) has further strengthened its team with the appointment of Poppy Collins as Business Development Director. She joins from the educational institution BPP where she was Commercial Head - Europe & Central Asia.



Gerry Friel has joined The North British Distillery Company as Site Director where he will have responsibility for leading its Muirhall site and overseeing the day to day activities of the entire customer logistics and warehousing aspects of the business. He joins from XPO Logistics where he was Account Director - Scotland. Kerry Brown also joins as Site Finance Manager from Glenmorangie.



Entier, Scotland’s largest independent contract catering and support services company, has appointed Alex Leddy as Business Development Director. He joins from IKM Testing where he was Head of Sales.



In a number of University appointments, Paul Reay joins The University of Edinburgh as Head of Research Funding from The University of Birmingham; Pia Kelly is the new Head of Commercial and Management Accounting at The University of Stirling, having previously been with RBS and Peter Fotheringham joins The University of Dundee as Deputy Director of Finance from Highland Spring.



Bob Barr joins refuse collection vehicle manufacturer, Farid Hillend Engineering as Chief Operating Officer. He was previously Group Operations Manager at Alexander Dennis, the leading bus manufacturer.



Rory Sheddon has joined PE-backed PHS, a leading UK support services group, as Group Head of Programme Delivery. He was previously with Boston-based Radius having trained originally as a CA with EY.



Enva, backed by Exponent, is a full-service and leading provider of recycling and resource recovery solutions, employing over 1100 people at locations across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Paul O’Brien joins as Head of QHSE from CalaChem.



Maven Capital Partners has appointed Gavin Anderson, formerly of Deutsche Bank in London, as an Investment Manager.



In a number of other financial appointments, Ian Webster is the new Director of Finance for biopharmaceutical company NuCana, joining from Kyowa Kirin; Gerald Jamieson, formerly of Axios Systems, is the new Financial Controller for leading waste manager NWH Group and Eileen McCann is now the Financial Controller for Red Wing Europe, having joined from Schlumberger.



Iain Bain is joining Heineken as IT Business Manager, Commerce, following a successful IT career in FMCG with William Grant & Sons and AG Barr.



Kelvin KBB, Scotland’s leading manufacturer of kitchens, bathrooms, vanity furniture and wardrobe systems, has appointed Andrew McGhee as Digital Content Lead. He joins Kelvin from the Emtec Group.



Norrine Brydon has joined Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library as Executive Director - North America. Previously, she held the position of Vice President - Global Content Strategy with CoreLogic. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is an amazing book gifting program that has mailed millions of free books to children from birth to age five in participating communities within the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Republic of Ireland.



We would also like to congratulate Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC) Chief Executive, Mandy Haeburn-Little, on receiving a Parliamentary Motion of Commendation for her fantastic work there. Judy Wagner commented: “We were delighted to have assisted in Mandy’s appointment with the SBRC in 2011 and wish her continued success in her career.”



FWB Park Brown Managing Director, Scott Black, has stepped down from his role as President of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce following a successful 4 year term. Current Chamber board member Jane Clark-Hutchison was formally elected as Scott’s successor at the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting earlier this month - she is currently Head of Client Relationships, Workplace Distribution at Scottish Widows.

Commenting on his term Scott said: “It’s been a privilege to have been President of the Edinburgh Chamber. I was once told that there are two good rules to follow in business; the first being to leave things better than you found them and the second to hire a successor who can do a better job than you. Hopefully I’ve achieved both! I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity and it’s been great to get to know and work with some fantastic people along the way. I hope that the Chamber goes from strength to strength and I wish Jane all the very best as she takes on the role of President.”


Our US office in Houston has also been very active, particularly in its specialist area of Oil & Gas, and reports the following appointments:



Backed by EV Private Equity, Morphpackers is a leading global provider of revolutionary and highly innovative expandable steel packers for the oil and gas industry. Alfredo Sanchez has been appointed as CEO, having previously held the position of Vice President of Well Construction at Rubicon Oilfield International.



Belmont Technology, a specialist in AI cognitive solutions for Upstream Oil and Gas, has appointed Stephan Dumothier as VP Technology & Marketing. He previously held the position as Director of Product Engineering at Align Technology.



Schoeller-Bleckmann is a $500m public company, listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange, manufacturing and supplying specialty equipment to the oil and gas industry across the globe. It has appointed Raed Aljedawi from Welltec Inc as Managing Director – Saudi Arabia.



Bobby Bolin has been appointed Business Development Manager (US) of ICR Integrity Limited, a global maintenance and integrity company for oil and gas, power, chemical, nuclear and defense sectors. He previously led Business Development for CUST-O-FAB.



Phil Wilhelm has joined GHGSat in Houston as Director of Business Development having previously held the position of Managing Director - Sales & Business Development with Dassault Systems. GHGSat has the world's first high-resolution satellite monitoring greenhouse gas emissions for industrial facilities around the world.



Sunil Taneja has been appointed Regional Controller of Tri-Point Oil & Gas based in Midland, Texas. Tri-Point is an oil and gas production and process equipment and services company that brings together high-performing, complementary products and services with national-scale infrastructure. Previously, Sunil held the position of Regional Financial Controller for American Global Maritime.



Mark Sledge has joined Polk Mechanical as Senior Vice President of Service, having previously held the position of General Manager with Quantum. Polk Mechanical is a leading US construction company with locations in Dallas & Houston, offering commercial, industrial, and maintenance services.
