Wow, this my 100th article published on Linkedin over the last 20 years, and we're starting year 2 of the Friday Five with the 53rd edition. Don't wait, just do it, and someone might notice. I am thankful for the community, and we got a nice acknowledgment for sharing the knowledge (Check #5 Voice below)
And now I know your curiosity is getting the best of you, and Friday's fading around the world, so without further adieu, five posts that touched a nerve with my community this week.
The Friday Five
Futurist - What's the Situation, How does it feel?
I'm not a fan of any of the religions, but the one that probably aligns the most is situational leadership, because it’s the one that has for me the most amount of empathy ... ‘Hang on’, like ‘Time- out’ ... How do I understand the situation? - Dominic Price
Please join me in welcoming Dom Price to Work 20XX.
Dom is a deep thinker with a pragmatic flair. We delved into everything from 1%, adaptability, and bias for action, to context, culture, data, distributed teams, do-ocracy, evolution, experimentation, feel, foundation, how we work, open source, Personal Moral Inventory, portfolio, psychological safety, proxy, ROI, scale, situational leadership, team, TEDx, The Five Ls, The Modern Workplace Manifesto, trust, try, unlearning, values, walks... and more.

Leading vs Managing
Just imagine in five years ... we have to recreate Accenture from scratch ... this is where principles and values ... your way of doing things, the glue, the secret sauce ... of values which are keeping the whole thing together? - Pierre Nanterme
It's been 5 years since the passing of the beloved Pierre Nanterme, former CEO of Accenture. Absoulty touched that this post has resurfaced, a video of a talk, given by Pierre at his alma matter. Years before Covid shocked the rest of the world into digital reality, Pierre has an amazing grasp on managing a globally distributed firm in a VUCA world.
Everything is 'speed to' - speed to consumer, speed to decision, speed to feedback, speed to reassess ... whatever your size ... You need speed and decentralization ... centralization is gone - Pierre Nanterme

Tear away the Mask
The office had a masking effect on a lot of inefficiencies and process gaps, documentation gaps, a lot of that ... Take that away, you almost become naked in front of your team, all gets exposed. And that's scary to people, to live in the open to live in a transparent way - Shyam Sundar Nagarajan
Spot on Shyam, or as Kate Lister might say 'distributed work didn't create management problems, it's exposed them.
'Tap on shoulders, ground-hogging over cubicles, and pulling off headphones in open office plans no longer represent the state-of-the-art knowledge and information storage, retrieval, and dissemination. Hasn't been for some time. Fast networks, powerful handsets, and browser-deliver
Fun to share the mic with?Shyam on his GoFloaters podcast. Thanks again.

Emotion and Logic - Psychology and Economics
Figure out what makes that person tick. Align your objectives with what makes them tick - Jeff Frick
Another guest appearance on Transforming Work with Sophie Wade. When you kick things off with undergrad rat lab (an attribute I share with Rachel Tobac), it's not an everyday journey. Work, Communication, AI, carer tracks, thematic threads (always easier to run the maze backward) threads and more. Thanks Sophie, what a treat.

This is to ensure that their expertise matches our members' interests.- LinkedIn Top Voices Program
So excited to share, that almost 20 years to the month after signing onto LinkedIn for the first time, Feb 2004, and connecting with great people including Bill Schmarzo and Lee Mayfield those first few days, I was pleasantly surprised to be recognized by the LinkedIn Top Voices Program, and earned a Top Voices Badge for 2024!
Not sure how that happens, but after 20 years of posting thousands of thoughts, hundreds of videos, 100 articles, and 2 newsletters, with over 30,000 followers, people value the share.
Thank you, LinkedIn Editors. Happy to be a contributing part of the community.

In deference to Goodhart's Law, where we are careful not to let the measurement become the objective, we gratefully acknowledge the more than 30,000 of you who are following along on LinkedIn. Thank You.
But as I prompted ChatGPT to give me an image, driving past the mile marker, heading forward into a bright new day, bringing community along, while looking for new learning opportunities. Thank you.
That's a wrap on today's edition. I was going to 'wait' to start my newsletter. Don't wait.

I go through gallons of Peet's Coffee putting posts together. Someone finally created an app, where you can buy me a cup of coffee.
Thanks and have a great week.
Absolutely right! ??Distributed teams and decentralization can indeed evoke chaotic contexts. As Steve Jobs once said, "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower" ??. Embracing these challenges can lead to unforeseen, creative solutions. #Change #Innovation #SteveJobs??
