The future's red, the future's...

Labour has won the general election, and now is the time we get to see if all the promises and plans in their most recent manifesto will be implemented.

Here are just some of the key proposals Labour included in their manifesto regarding clean energy, recruitment and innovation...

Clean Energy

  • Labour have promised that clean power will be here in the UK by 2030
  • Labour will establish a National Wealth Fund. The National Wealth Fund will have a remit to support Labour’s growth and clean energy missions, making transformative investments across every part of the country.
  • The party have pledged to?create a new Clean Power Alliance, bringing together a coalition of countries at the cutting edge of climate action.

Technology & Innovation

  • In an ever more connected world, Britain’s communication network is vital. Labour will make a renewed push to fulfil the ambition of full gigabit and national 5G coverage by 2030.
  • Labour have promised that their?industrial strategy supports the development of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector, removing planning barriers to new datacentres.
  • The party have?pledged to?support diverse business models which bring innovation and new products to the market.
  • Labour have proposed to?scrap short funding cycles for key R&D institutions in favour of ten-year budgets that allow meaningful partnerships with industry to keep the UK at the forefront of global innovation.?

Jobs & Recruitment

  • ‘Labour’s Plan to Make Work Pay: Delivering a New Deal for Working People’ will include banning exploitative zero hours contracts; ending fire and rehire; and introducing basic rights from day one to parental leave, sick pay, and protection from unfair dismissal.
  • Labour's plan to "Make Work Pay" will "transform the lives of working women, including by strengthening rights to equal pay and protections from maternity and menopause discrimination and sexual harassment." Labour have also promised to take action to reduce the gender pay gap, building on the legacy of Barbara Castle’s Equal Pay Act.
  • Labour’s plans in the clean energy industry include to create 650,000 jobs across the country by 2030.
