Global

EU introduces new rules for corporate due diligence

The European Union has proposed a new directive called the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The directive will legally oblige EU corporations to integrate risk management and mitigation processes of human rights and environmental impacts in their value chains. The proposed directive will also introduce duties for companies’ directors to set up and oversee the implementation of due diligence processes . Negotiations are still under way and are expected to finalize by the end of 2023 or early 2024. Read more here.

2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28)

COP 28, happening in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023, gathers representatives from nearly 200 nations to tackle pressing climate issues. Discussions will prioritize reducing fossil fuels, cutting carbon emissions, and deliberating international funding for climate adaptation. Notably, this summit marks the conclusion of the first global stock take, a vital assessment enabling countries to collectively measure progress toward the Paris Climate Change Agreement goals, identifying areas of success and areas needing increased attention in combating climate change. Pioneering National Packaging Standards!

During the Adelaide meeting, Environment Ministers reached an agreement that the Federal Government will establish fresh packaging regulations. These guidelines will oversee packaging production, guarantee a minimum use of recycled materials, and prevent harmful chemicals. Moreover, the endorsed framework for improved product stewardship aims to unify efforts across government levels, complementing councils' commitment to waste reduction and recycling. Read more here.

Wood and forestry sector sets strategy to drive a circular economy

Focused on 'Embracing Our Natural Capital,' The Australia New Zealand Institute of Forestry conference was held in Tweed Heads, New South Wales, attracting diverse Australian and New Zealand stakeholders. The event emphasized forest management through evidence-based practices and innovation. Highlighting the significance of security, indigenous forestry, carbon offsetting, and technology's role in forestry practices. Read more here.

NaturePositive+ Standard Set to Redefine Manufacturing

Global GreenTag International introduced the NaturePositive+ Standard? at Circularity 23. The standard is aimed at aligning manufacturing with global biodiversity protocols. This program offers scientific metrics to guide manufacturers in integrating nature-centric approaches into product lifecycles. Thermal Haven Nest Boxes make the first product to be certified under this standard. Read more here.

Going beyond the Blueprint

In early October, we proudly launched the first issue of our brand-new newsletter Beyond the blueprint. We thought it would be a good chance to go beyond the norm and share our thoughts, ideas, and perspectives about the latest trends around the world with a personal touch.
