Workforce Digital Skills Charter launched UK-wide

This week, we're proud to launch the Workforce Digital Skills Charter UK-wide.

?

The Charter is a rallying cry for concerted action to close the essential digital skills gap in the UK workforce and we've been overwhelmed by the positive response it has received.

?

The first wave of signatories includes more than 100 leading UK business voices and household names, such as Accenture, Amey, Barclays, CIPD, Cisco, City & Guilds, Lloyds Banking Group, Marks and Spencer, Nationwide Building Society, Oliver Wyman, Nominet, PwC, Salesforce, techUK and Ufi VocTech Trust.

?

The Charter marks the next stage in our collective mission. We're working together to build a workforce that's powered up and ready to thrive today, and in our digital future

?

For existing coalition members, the Workforce Digital Skills Charter supersedes the previous FutureDotNow members’ pledge. Existing members, having signed the pledge, are automatically considered Charter signatories. If you’d like more information on this, please contact [email protected].

Delivery plan Sprint 3 kick off

This week also sees the official start of Sprint 3 of the 2024 delivery plan to close the essential digital skills gap.

A kick off call last week reflected on the achievements of Sprint 2 and looked ahead to the outcomes we’d like to see by the end of this third and final sprint of the 2024 delivery plan.

There was a huge amount of positivity and energy on the call and a real sense of ambition for the steps forward we want to take together in the coming months.

?

If you’d like to watch on catch up, you can view a recording of the call here and there’s still time to get involved in Sprint three by completing this short form.

South West action on digital skills

Over the summer, three new 'vertical' workstreams of the 2024 delivery plan were launched to engage specific communities. One of these focuses on the UK regions.

Initially targeting the South West, a team led by Julie Hawker MBE, CEO of Cosmic, is activating regional activity to close the workforce digital skills gap by considering local contexts and mobilising local partners. The team includes representatives from Cornwall County Council, Dorset Council, Devon County Council, and Somerset Council.

They are organising two key events in October to bring local partners together for this critical joint mission.

  • South West business leaders lunch - October 31, 12-2pm Hosted by the South West Business Council at the Mount Somerset Hotel, Taunton
  • Briefing for Local Authorities and Digital Skills Partnerships – October 31, 2.30-4.40pm Firepool Innovation Centre, Taunton

If you’d like to attend either meeting, please contact Julie Hawker at [email protected].
