Future Of YOU(th)

Future Of YOU(th)

Three years ago, I was invited to give a keynote address on the 'Future of African Youth' at the Nigerian Chapter of #StopViolenceAgainstWomen Conference given my take on recent articles and papers that I had delivered on the same subject.

In response, I delivered a presentation on the #FutureOfYOU(th), a trend report that provided an in-depth study on the African Consumer, with my perspective on the cultural context that sometimes give rise to the kind of mindsets, behaviors and attitudes of people across Africa. The report was actually an exposition into the background of how most African men and women live their lives across countries, cities, and communities. 'FOY' shed some light on how violence was a product of certain societal norms, mores and traditions that we'd gotten so used to, and that neither a slogan, a social media hashtag movement nor a peaceful walk or online protest would change the status-quo.

We have to RELOOK at the issues, understand the history and the journey that has brought us to this point, analyse it based on certain parameters, and work towards addressing it frontally. This "violence" against women is a mere microcosm and an after-effect of a much bigger issue. Why are we scared of addressing these BIG problems that gave birth to some of these issues?

We simply have to REIMAGINE the kind of future that we want for our women, nay our daughters and our children, by RESTAGING and RESETTING the social idiosyncrasies that we have all accepted and allowed as our own tokenism for our ways of living and the lifestyles that we have seemingly gotten used to.

We cannot wish for flowers but discard the roots that give it life. ?? #word

The Future of ALL Of Us starts with YOU. It starts with the foundation that we create and lay down for our YOUTHS.

Truth is...it starts with YOU. #FutureOfYOU//TH??

I think all these socials problems come from our culture, traditions and sometimes ego of men who are still traditionalists and don't care about the respect of people. We need to solve this problem from childhood by a good upbringing. For example if a child growth in a family where the father beat his mother, it will affect him and his behaviors.?
