The Future of the Workplace & Why I Joined Reflektive
What makes a great workplace? This has been a question on the top of my mind since my first job. At this point in my career I've been through a variety of companies, large and small, and experienced many different styles of management at all levels in the organization. Although every workplace has its own unique culture, I've found the best places to work have clear and transparent management systems, not only from top down, but also bottom up - empowering employees to collaborate and thrive. In the best organizations, everyone is a manager of their own objectives, and peer feedback is equally important as reviews by supervisors and management.
When I heard about the opportunity to head up marketing at Reflektive, I was intrigued. The Andreessen Horowitz-backed startup is revolutionizing performance management, having signed up over 50 customers to date, including many well-loved brands and businesses known for their great cultures (Pinterest, Optimizely, Disney Interactive, Lyft and Glassdoor, to name a few.)
What these companies know is that the workplace has changed, and in order to create a happy, thriving, engaged and highly-performant culture, new tools and systems must be put in place. Empowering every employee to become a better manager (whether of other people or just themselves) is key. Clearly defined goals and ongoing performance management should not be limited to one-time-a-year reviews, or be a top-down experience which demotivates employees. That's where Reflektive comes in -- we empower every manager with a seamless and continuous feedback experience that is integrated into their everyday workflows.
There are many reasons why Reflektive is a unique solution on the market today, all of which compelled my decision to join the company.
The Reflektive approach to a modern performance management system encompasses a full suite of solutions for managing teams of all sizes, with a focus on flexibility, integration, and simplicity. The product is extremely easy to use, and quickly becomes part of everyday workflows.
Additionally, Reflektive's founding team honed their craft in social gaming, where they earned their stripes in designing engaging user experiences. Although Reflektive is not at all a game, the same mechanisms that drive repeat usage in social games are leveraged to ensure optimal product usage from both employees and their managers. After all, what good is a powerful performance management system if no one uses it?
As I take on the challenge to scale the marketing team at Reflektive, I look forward to using our system to become a better manager, and achieve the goals that will drive our organization's success. There are many exciting things in store for 2016, with new customers to announce and products that will continue to fix the broken performance management systems that many companies have in place today.
