The Future Work Summit 2022 is on!

Steven Spangher and Kerryn Nelson are once again hosting the Future Work Summit 2022.

I am delighted to be collaborating in the design of the program that supports the theme for the Future Work Summit 2022:

“Inspiring the leadership and workforce we need to shape the economy and society we want.”

The program will be delivered in South Australia with the support of Premier Steven Marshall, the Hon. David Pisoni MP, Minister for Innovation and Skills and the South Australian Chief Entrepreneur Andrew Nunn.

We are also delighted to be joined by the Hon. Arthur Sinodinos AO, Australia's Ambassador to the United States whose efforts to connect the Australians to the opportunities in the United States are a hallmark of his term.

Initial Conversations

A number of conversations will be pre-recorded and broadcast in the lead up to the Summit. We will hear from:

  • Bruce Wolpe, Senior Fellow at the United States Studies Centre and former Chief of Staff to the Hon. Julia Gillard AC. Available now to watch and listen.
  • Professor Caroline McMillen AO, South Australia's Chief Scientist. Available now to watch and listen.
  • Anne-Marie Elias, CEO of Beckon Capital.

The Program

I designed this year's program with the intention of allowing us to hear from national and international thought leaders, change-makers and enablers. My goal is to have attendees leave with answers to the questions you’ve been asking yourself, questions to ask your organisation and actions you can take to give your organisation a competitive advantage.

The Race In Space

With so much activity in space, how do we keep track of it all? There is a proliferation of satellite technology and a boom of space-based services. With this comes a rise in space debris which in itself is an issue, before we consider the impact of the debris colliding and creating even more debris hindering our space-based activities. So how do we predict the location of near-earth objects?? As we send more spacecraft into deep space we continue to manage their navigation from earth because spacecraft can’t tell time. What progress are we making in having spacecraft navigate themselves??What does the level of investment in space-related research and development deliver for industry and what is required to build the workforce to mitigate any risks and embrace the opportunities these opportunities present??

We will hear from:

Greater than the sum of their parts - Quantum, Robotics and AI

When AI and robotics meet quantum, the possibilities will fuel imaginations, unlock insights, power innovation and challenge societies. What does the future really hold and what are the skills we will require to harness the potential constructively?

We will hear from:

The game has changed, who is writing the new rules?

The investment in defence, space and cyber is no longer discretionary. The reality of the ungoverned space in the cyber domain, the actions of state and criminal actors are colliding in grey zone warfare and being triggered by the geopolitical situation. What does this mean for Australia’s economy and security? The global challenge in creating a cyberspace workforce in both defence and private industry is acute. How does defence train and retain the workforce the nation needs while intense competition for this same talent is being waged by a better resourced private sector? Australia’s investment in critical, cyber and emerging technologies enables the creation of sovereign capability and accelerates our ambitions in modern manufacturing. So what are the opportunities for industry and how do we ensure that we can create the workforce we need to capitalise on these investments?

We will hear from:

  • Professor John Blaxland, Professor of International Security & Intelligence Studies, Strategic and Defence Studies, Centre for Strategic Studies at ANU
  • Major General (Ret) Fergus McLachlan AO, Adjunct Professor (Practice): Faculties of Engineering, Business and Economics at Monash University
  • Anthony Murfett - Head of Division Technology and National Security, Department of Innovation Science Energy and Resources, Australian Government

What has more to do with ESG and SDGs than it does with RATS

The pandemic has emphasised the interconnectedness of our economies, ecologies and societies, and of people, purpose and planet. What does this shift mean for modern leaders globally?

This keynote address will be delivered by Dr Amanda Rischbieth, Visiting Scientist, Harvard Chan School of Public Health

The State of Skills

The distance between where we are and where we want to be in right-skilling Australia is informed by data. So what does the data tell us and what trends are emerging? With increased competition for talent and a resetting of priorities by workers since the pandemic, how do organisations find the skills they need? How can organisations uncover the skills their people have, reskill those people they wish to retain and identify the talent they want to attract???To secure better-paying jobs, Australians need to create the companies that produce these jobs and the confidence to develop the skills to do these jobs. So how are we connecting the dots to make this possible??

We will hear from:

And be joined for a panel discussion with:

Global Talent Time

We’ve attracted some of the world’s leading minds and businesses to Australia. They’ve come to grow their businesses, commercialise their research and develop their careers. Why did they choose Australia and what’s keeping them here?

This keynote address will be delivered by Peter Verwer AO, the Prime Minister's Special Envoy for Global Business and Talent Attraction.

Joining the dots to transform the Australian Economy

Spreading yourself too thin rarely delivers the intended outcome. Emeritus Professor Roy Green will consider whether Australia can accelerate the transformation of its economy to respond to the changes we are facing from established markets and emerging competitors by aligning our intentions nationally, coordinating our actions globally and focusing our investments.

Unlocking value through strategic procurement

Strategic procurement is a critical asset for every organisation. It can be leveraged to accelerate transformation, unlock innovation and improve efficiency. So how can organisations unlock the value of strategic procurement? How do organisations use this to take cost out, become more competitive and improve the customer experience?

We will hear from:

  1. Detlef Schultz, Chairman, Vodafone Procurement Company and Co-Founder, akirolabs
  2. Mark Perera, CEO of Vizibl
  3. Warrick Cramer, Global Director of Innovation Strategy at Kyndryl

Master of Ceremonies

I'm thrilled to be joined by Harry Godber, Head of Strategy at Flare who will co-host the program and facilitate some of the panel discussion.
