The picture you see above in the headline is me during my visit to LinkedIn's headquarters in Silicon Valley (USA) in April this year. And on the wall of the image shows what drives LinkedIn.
But trusting and caring for one another is what makes the largest professional network in the world successful, according to Ryan Roslansky, their CEO, during an online event about the New World of Work two days ago, and you can watch full here.
For Ryan, corporate culture is the collective personality of an organization. At LinkedIn, it is grounded on values like that one, which is precisely what their hybrid work policy is based on.
During his interview, Ryan brought some tips about what he promotes on LinkedIn to fight what is known today as 'Productivity Paranoia,' that is, bosses' obsessive suspicion that their employees are not productive when they are away from the office.
According to a report released by Microsoft, 85% of leaders say the shift to hybrid work has made it challenging to have?confidence that employees are productive. Yet 87% of employees confirm they are indeed productive.
Mr. Roslanskly's conclusion is that before the pandemic, a manager's perception of their employees' productivity was based on being in the office and getting work done. So a lot of their role was to ensure that you were there, that you were physically there.
Then we moved to a hybrid world that requires a much different management and leadership style, a lot of new pressure and learning, and another way of thinking that has to go upon managers now. And managers and leaders are still finding their way in this new context.
For Ryan, they can't just ground themselves in being in the office, but rather whether or not someone is productive and effective at their job, by ensuring they have clarity on what their role entails, what’s required for the person in this role to be successful, and ultimately the outcomes.
The LinkedIn CEO also teaches what managers and leaders need to succeed: they need to think differently about their role based on success and outcome instead of time in the office.
For thriving in the current complex world, Ryan recommends developing adaptive leadership once now; there are new decisions they have to make daily that neither they nor anyone else had to make before in their life, yet they play up and stay positive.

Ryan says that as part of such an adaptive mindset shift is when companies can shift away from recruiting and retaining talents based on antiquated methods according to only degrees or where someone worked and succeeded before to ensure the right people with the right skills can best do a job.
This ultimately leads to much more productive and efficient work and promotes a much more equitable labor market, creating a better opportunity for all.
Even though the work shifts are already happening, LinkedIn data shows that change in the world of work is mainly taking place in roles, which are being created and replaced at an indeed record pace now.
That’s why we have to keep up with these rapid and significant changes that are going on.

According to Mr. Roslansky, the focus has shifted from where a person studied, worked, or whom they know (their network) to an alternative path, which is flexible and accessible based on skills. And, of course, this applies to all workers, not just newcomers to the job market.
