The Future of Work is Set to be Revolutionized, Driven by the power of AI

Many of the innovations we use today have crept up on us, evolved and gradually changed the way we work and play. But not generative AI. This is different. It has captured the imaginations of professionals and changed everything. We need to figure out how it will best benefit humanity. And quickly.

At Thomson Reuters our purpose to Inform the Way Forward drives us to serve our customers with integrity, promote justice, and champion truth and transparency. It is through this lens that I view the potential for generative AI as a powerful force for good.

?

Thomson Reuters has long been a leader in leveraging new technologies, including machine learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Digging deeper, when I joined three years ago, I found out that in the 1990s, Thomson Reuters was in fact among the earliest providers of commercial applications for natural language processing search. In the 30 years since then, we have leveraged increasingly sophisticated AI and ML capabilities to improve search and expand analytics through a series of product advances for our customers.

?

As a result of these advancements, we’re already seeing changes in customer demands and expectations. According to a recent report from the Thomson Reuters Institute, 82 percent of legal professionals believe generative AI, like GPT-4, could be applied to legal work. It’s safe to assume the most productive and efficient lawyers, accountants, and other professionals of the future will be those who leverage AI as a tool to enable them to focus their time on what’s most important.

?

Our vision for generative AI is focused on customer experience. Not just our immediate customers, but the clients our customers serve. Our north star is helping end-clients feel that the professional they work with (be it an attorney, an accountant, or a risk consultant) better understands their needs, considers more avenues to solve their problems, and ultimately makes provides services that are invaluable.

?

We are committed to providing transformative value, optimizing the way work gets done, helping our customers deliver better, more consistent work products than ever before - and helping professionals maximize the benefit and influence of their expertise. As a result, professionals will have more time for critical thinking, enabling them to provide transformative value to their clients and organizations, and optimize the way work gets done. With this in mind, we have identified several key strategies to harness the power of generative AI.

?

What is of paramount importance to me, and the Thomson Reuters team, is ensuring this transformation is constructed upon a foundation of ethical standards that consider the broader implications of our customers’ work. We will persist in spearheading these advancements while continuously scrutinizing the rapidly changing landscape.

The future of work is set to be revolutionized, driven by the power of AI. As well as the exciting opportunities ahead, we must also be mindful that the use of AI in the legal, tax and accounting, risk and fraud industries is not without its challenges – our Trust Principles demonstrate our commitment to a transparent and human-centric approach in our design, development, and deployment of AI.

?

Thomson Reuters is uniquely positioned to develop meaningful solutions that integrate generative AI quickly and safely. We have the content, the talent, and many years of experience working with our customers to lead our industry first towards understanding its potential, and then to harnessing the opportunity. Using our Trust Principles to guide us, our proprietary content and technology, deep knowledge of the professionals we serve, and well-established expertise in working with large language models, Thomson Reuters will provide a secure and accurate experience using generative AI, elevating the way customers work.

?

It is the privilege of my career to help our customers benefit from these advancements, and I’m deeply committed to working with our industry peers, to serve our customers, and to flexing our approach as we all continue to learn about the potential of AI and machine learning.
