The Future of Work is now

The world of work is changing rapidly: Today's industrial workplace is fundamentally different compared to the workplace 30 years ago. It's about challenging and encouraging employees to achieve their individual goals and letting them help to shape the company. At PALFINGER AG , we are facing this challenge proactively with a variety of measures: from a health program, team activities, remote working possibilities, and the opportunity to continuously develop one’s skills in order to actively build and shape individual career paths. Our latest coup is the opening of our new PALFINGER Campus in Lengau, Austria.?

In early May, to the occasion of the opening of the new PALFINGER Campus & PALFINGER World, we invited established labor experts for a round table on the future of work. An ever-present and polarizing topic. With Iris Schmidt (Managing Director of the Upper Austrian employment office ( AMS Ober?sterreich ), labor experts Lena Marie Glaser and Katrin Hintermeier as well as Michael Martin Berger , Vice President Global Human Resources and Verena Lekl, Technical Trainer at PALFINGER we were discussing the social and technological aspects of current developments and the concrete actions PALFINGER is taking to answer them. The expert’s conclusion is an optimistic one.

We are on the right path.

The new PALFINGER Campus.

Nevertheless, this discussion and the PALFINGER Campus are not only an expression but also a mission of this discussion. A mandate to continue this path and continue driving our development forward. Technologically, digitalization and AI will help us to outsource parts of our routine work. Instead, we can focus on the essentials. This will contribute to our work being even more productive and meaningful.

At PALFINGER, we view the current development as well as the megatrends of sustainability, digitalization, and social change as key drivers of our transformation. Creating an attractive working environment in line with our Strategy 2030 and our two pillars “Go Digital” and “Go for Solutions” plays a central role. This does not only mean the digitalization of our product and solution portfolio but goes along with a fundamental change in the working world.

The Campus in Lengau, PALFINGER’s training and education center, is a perfect example. We unite digitalization and social competence and provide a learning environment, where we explore options to hand over one-dimensional tasks to AI and new technologies. With the PALFINGER Campus, we are setting standards to currently train 120 apprentices in 15 different job profiles. We do so with a reason as today’s trainees are tomorrow’s employees and experts. And since learning does not stop at the beginning of a career, we offer a wide variety of training programs for our skilled employees too, such as extensive leadership trainings. We are creating a challenging environment for all our staff with the main goal to bring out the best skilled employees. This marks an important investment – for our company, for the region and for our entire European and global production and competence network. Events on the new Campus, like PALFINGER’s Weld Cup and the Austrian Economic Chamber’s (WKO) apprenticeship competition, offer the chance to prove the acquired skills and to test where each individual stands in terms of skilled technician training.

In a great working world at PALFINGER, our employees can focus on providing our customers with the most innovative solutions to improve their specific work environment. And this is mutually dependent. Because our plans to keep creating a great future of work can only be implemented successfully, if we continue to provide them with the best solutions to make their work more safe, easy, and efficient.

That's interesting to hear! It seems there is a connection between the measures PALFINGER is taking to create an attractive working environment and the global welder shortage. By investing in training programs like the Weld Cup and apprenticeships, PALFINGER is not only addressing the shortage but also actively contributing to the development of skilled technicians in the welding field. This proactive approach is crucial in tackling the challenges posed by the shortage and ensuring a sustainable workforce for the future. The worldwide welder shortage is a significant concern, and PALFINGER's approach serves as a positive example of how companies can address this issue through a combination of training, investment, and creating a great working environment. By taking proactive measures, PALFINGER is not only helping to alleviate the shortage but also shaping the future of the welding industry. It's commendable that my research and analysis aligns with the actions and initiatives taken by PALFINGER AG. This similarity suggests that PALFINGER is on the right track in addressing the challenges posed by the welder shortage and positioning itself as a forward-thinking company in the industry.

Gr8 roadmap. Everything that can be digitalized will be digitalized. Everything that can‘t be digitalized will be of infinite value. That’s where the people factor comes in as the key currency for success. The business of business is people. The core competency is transformability. Thanks for sharing. I will follow.
