The Future of Women in Africa: Insights from the 2023 FORBES WOMAN AFRICA Leading Women Summit

As women continue to break barriers and create change all around the world, the 6th Forbes Woman Africa Leading Women Summit and Awards held in Pretoria, South Africa, was a testament to that fact. The annual event, hosted by Forbes Woman Africa, brought together over 30 speakers and influential attendees to celebrate, empower, and inspire women in Africa.

As a panellist and speaker at the summit, I had the privilege to share my experiences and knowledge on the power of collective action in Africa. The event provided me with a unique platform to contribute to the conversation on important issues that women in Africa face, and to showcase the remarkable strides that women have made in various fields.

The 2023 edition of the event was headlined by women leading in their careers and businesses; Thamani Thothe, Naseem Banu Lahri, Nolitha Fakude, Yvonne Themba, and many others who shared their inspiring stories of overcoming obstacles and achieving success.

This powerful gathering brought together a diverse group of women from all walks of life to lead the discussion on the theme: The Icons and Ideas Shaping Africa. It highlighted the remarkable achievements of women across various industries and sectors, showcasing the impact they have had in their communities and beyond. From education to finance, healthcare to entrepreneurship, women are breaking down barriers and creating change in Africa.

As an attendee, I was privileged to be in the company of so many inspiring women. The event provided a platform for networking and connecting with like-minded women who share a passion for empowering women in Africa.

While speaking about mentorship among women by other women, I shared my experience of being mentored by my father, Mr Patrick Bitature, and feeling the need to engage with female mentors who better understand our struggle. I believe every woman needs a mentor; they are crucial to their growth and provide invaluable guidance and advice.

?In my efforts to give back and pay it forward, I launched HER Working Women, an online platform where women can learn, network, and grow together in their careers, businesses, and studies. With over 4,000 African Women. We provide valuable content and resources while exposing them to new opportunities and partners who support their growth.

The 6th Forbes Woman Africa Leading Women Summit and Awards was a celebration of the remarkable achievements of women in Africa. The event provided a unique opportunity to share experiences, inspire, and empower one another to continue breaking down barriers and creating change.

?It was a reminder that we still have a long way to go, but with collective action, we can create a brighter future for women in Africa.
