The future of travel...
So, travel aficionados. How do we move forward given the current situation? Well, just for a bit of context here, the World is now even further buckled under future uncertainty from a financial and especially travel restriction perspective. Given that now we have some Covid experience, no one wants to get caught abroad, with the respective country's local leader chasing a self benefiting socio-political agenda.
Let's cut to the chase, most travellers are now opting for domestic travel, avoiding public transport, kind of looking to get away, without contacting many people on the way there. There is proof of this as camper / motorhome rentals have reached record highs.
The travel industry has been trying to adapt its products to this new normal, but we have yet to identify a clear winner / visionary in this game. One fact cannot be ignored, the pie is now smaller as the volumes will take the same time to recover, and may never have the same umpth.
Let's break this down further. The leisure market will come back, although customers are now more careful, and will certainly make buying decisions with new criteria in mind. This will uncover new niches for innovative companies. On the corporate side of things, companies have now learned that business can be done remotely, and this is highly favorable to the bottom line. Nothing else needs to be said here.
So, where to and how do we travel? For the next 6-12 months, keeping it domestic is a great idea. Look for local places that you have never taken the time to visit. Another good tip is to look to nature, keep away from agglomerations and high-transit points. Go back to nature, stay with the family, cook for yourself. This seems to be a safe and viable alternative. BTW, both you and your family will love it! Go fishing, hiking, camping and get in contact with nature, your family will love the beauty while you ponder deeply why something like this had to happen for you to go there.
