Future is today - automated classification of algae culture status with artificial intelligence

The typical way to determine the life cycle status of our algae is by manual transmitted light microscopy of the cultures.

However, the evaluation is always dependent to some extent on the subjective judgement of the observer. BDI-BioLife Science is known for the highest standards of quality and technology. We therefore want to replace manual microscopy with an automated system.

The digitally generated images of the microalgae enable both manual, optical assessment and automatic standardised assessment. For this purpose, artificial intelligence is used in the image recognition and classification of the different cell shapes in order to train a software specially adapted to our needs.
