?? Welcome to Future Today! A newsletter for those curious about social innovation, disruptive technologies and futures studies. In it I share weekly articles, reports and interesting links, and recommendations of books, movies, series, events and courses. We are already more than 15,000 people! Do not hesitate to subscribe!
?? At Innuba, we design positive futures from complex presents . We've been helping organizations and leaders for over 8 years to understand the complex present, imagine positive futures, and make them a reality, through disruptive innovation, collaboration ecosystems, humanist technology, and new narratives. Shall we talk? Leave me a message!
?? Governance in the Age of Generative AI . In a time of rapid innovation and global uncertainty, generative artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as a transformative force, reshaping industries, economies, and societies worldwide. This pivotal moment demands visionary leadership and a collaborative approach to anticipatory governance.
? The Kevin Kelly interview: The power of “radical optimism” . Kevin Kelly shares three insights for retaining a sense of optimism. “The only way to produce great things,” says Kelly “is to iterate on an ongoing, long-term basis.” Kelly also discusses “The Innovator’s Dilemma,” Stewart Brand’s concept of “pace layers,” and the difference between “good and great” companies.
?? 15 Global Megatrends . What is a "Megatrend"? And how can you use it to make better long term decisions? While it is true that the future can never be predicted, not all aspects of the future are equally unpredictable. There are relatively stable forces that play a huge role in determining outcomes. We call these Global Megatrends. In a principally unpredictable world, these trends stand out as the only relative certainty we have.
?? These Mini AI Models Match OpenAI With 1,000 Times Less Data . The artificial intelligence industry is obsessed with size. Bigger algorithms. More data. Sprawling data centers that could, in a few years, consume enough electricity to power whole cities. Last week, researchers at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Ai2) released a new family of open-source multimodal models competitive with state-of-the-art models like OpenAI’s GPT-4o—but an order of magnitude smaller. Called Molmo, the models range from 1 billion to 72 billion parameters. GPT-4o, by comparison, is estimated to top a trillion parameters.
?? Exploring Strategic Foresight and Disruption with Roger Spitz Ep 207 - The Global Discussion . In this episode of The Global Discussion, Host Simon Hodgkins talks with Roger Spitz, an expert in strategic foresight and systems innovation. Roger's career spans investment banking, climate strategy, and thought leadership, making him a key figure in understanding and managing disruption in today's world.

??? The Intelligence Age . In the next couple of decades, we will be able to do things that would have seemed like magic to our grandparents. This phenomenon is not new, but it will be newly accelerated. People have become dramatically more capable over time; we can already accomplish things now that our predecessors would have believed to be impossible.
?? Co-Inspire Possible Futures . This session bring together three boundary-pushing minds from distinct realms of strategy, creativity, and innovation. These Independent Thinkers are not just anticipating tomorrow—they're actively designing it. The session will unravel three unique perspectives, each offering a vision for the future that challenges convention and invites bold new possibilities: from the intersection of data, creativity, and technology to the exploration of cultural evolution and the human connection to place. The article presents a critical analysis of how AI, when combined with decentralized hashtag#Web3 technologies—such as hashtag#Blockchain, hashtag#DecentralizedAutonomousOrganizations (hashtag#DAOs), and hashtag#DataCooperatives—can support social innovation by addressing global inequalities, particularly in underserved regions of the Global South.
?? Wildlife Populations Have Shrunk a Shocking Amount in Just 50 Years, Report Finds . Amid widespread environmental destruction and the pressures brought by climate change, the average size of wildlife populations across the Earth has plummeted by 73 percent in just fifty years, according to a new analysis released by the World Wildlife Fund.
I believe the reason we can be optimistic about the future is not because we’re going to diminish the problems; it’s not because we think problems are smaller — it’s because we think our capacity to solve them is large and getting larger - Kevin Kelly

1 个月While I agree that smaller AI models offer exciting advancements, I believe that the size of models does still matter in certain contexts, particularly where extensive data and broader language comprehension are required. The focus on smaller models might work for specific tasks, but scaling AI for highly complex operations or diverse global applications might still rely on larger, more robust models. Additionally, the excitement about AI and Web3 should be tempered with caution, as these technologies still face significant challenges in adoption, scalability, and regulation.
