Future Today #024 - Top Trends, Complexity, Futures Fallacies

Welcome to Future Today! A newsletter for those curious about social innovation, disruptive technologies and futures studies. In it I will share weekly blog articles, interesting links and recommendations for books, movies, series and courses.

?? The top trends in tech by Mckinsey. As all thing digital continue to accelerate, which technology trends matter most for companies and executives? To answer that question, we developed a unique methodology to identify the ten trends most relevant to competitive advantage and technology investments.

?? An Introduction to Complexity Theory. Complexity Theory allows us to better understand systems as diverse as cells, human beings, forest ecosystems, and organizations, that are only partially understood by traditional scientific methods. While it represents a relatively nascent field of study, it spans across a wide variety of disciplines in the physical, biological, and social sciences, and has profound implications for the way we think about and act within the world.

?? Futures Fallacies: What They Are and What We Can Do About Them. In this article, I analyse detrimental thinking patterns about the future, termed futures fallacies. These fallacies create barriers to positive individual and social change. I provide examples of ten specific futures fallacies and explain why they remain current. The article is intended to both those new to Futures Studies and to futurists, to help them, us, more effectively use the future.

?? Automate for people, not for processes. Whether or not you foresee the coming of “hyperautomation” — the notion that every business process that can be automated should or indeed will be automated in the future — it’s clear that the majority of corporations across the globe have already begun to strategize for this inevitability.

???? Spain 2050: A comment (ES) Frankly, it is very good news that such a document has been drafted. The prologue declares that Spain is a country hungry for the future; for I would say that we have been on bread and water for a long time. However, this joy cannot hide the second point.

?????♂? How to Think Like a Futurist OR Why Marvel is Better Than DC. Introducing strategic foresight – a discipline that explores multiple futures to create present-day strategies. You'll get a sneak peek into how trained futurists think, the methods we use, and how you can start building your futures-thinking skills to navigate the uncertainty ahead. More importantly, this talk will demonstrate why Marvel is better than DC.

?? Trust Me: what you should keep in mind when building an ethical framework around data and AI. For a long time, my head was set around ideating a series of rules or guidelines which an organization or business could use or adapt to ensure an ethical use of technology and data. To ensure it provided everything a customer would need to feel safe, protected, informed and therefore willing to trust in the organization.

?? The Four Stages of Intelligent Matter That Will Bring Us Iron Man’s ‘Endgame’ Nanosuit. Welcome to the era of intelligent matter—an unconventional AI computing idea directly woven into the fabric of synthetic matter. Powered by brain-based computing, these materials can weave the skins of soft robots or form microswarms of drug-delivering nanobots, all while reserving power as they learn and adapt.

?? Printers also make cutlets and bacon (ES) "I'm going to have a T-bone steak for dinner." "Which do you prefer: the 3D printed one or the usual one?" "I'll try the printed one". It may not be long before we overhear this conversation in a restaurant. Meat manufactured in a laboratory, then molded on a 3D printer is, in fact, already a reality.

???? Five Kids From The Future. So what happens when three leading female futurists come together to envision what the children of the future could be like or what world they might inhabit? The result is this article, that shares creative and thought-provoking profiles of five kids from the future.
